Well this came out of the blue!

Townsvilles old international terminal to re-open with direct Bali flights.

"TOWNSVILLE'S international air services drought will soon be over with the announcement today by Strategic Airlines that it will provide the first ever direct flights from Townsville to Denpasar in Bali, commencing December 3.)

"The wholly Australian-owned airline will provide the only international flights currently available from Townsville, creating unprecedented leisure travel opportunities for the communities of north and north-western Queensland."

It's all over the media here this AM

Here's some more

"To coincide with the new international service, the airline is also launching twice-weekly direct flights between Brisbane and Townsville from December 3."

"The airline will offer an introductory one-way Townsville to Bali fare of $199 while fares from Brisbane to Townsville start at $89 one-way"

"By establishing flights between these cities we are providing more competitively priced leisure travel to Townsville, and giving businesses more schedules to choose from, with the added comfort of business class seating," he said.

"From December 3, Strategic Airlines flights will depart Townsville Airport each Friday and Sunday afternoon at 1.30pm and arrive in Denpasar at 4.45pm."

"The return flights will depart Denpasar at 9.30am every Saturday and Monday morning, and arrive back in Townsville at 4.15pm."

"Bookings can be made online at Fly Strategic > Home from Friday, September 17"

Ok it's Airbus 320-200 metal with Full Service, 12 J + 144 Econ.

Just where at TSV Dom is the Int terminal?

I know they do a few Int's over the other side of the runway:cool:

Its a combined Dom/Int, the international part being at the western end of the checkin area. DJ have a freight operation there which might be moving? You often see the Alliance F100 parked at the Int Aerobridge.

28 inch pitch might soon be deemed luxurious if that Skyrider saddle-style seat idea takes off. :-|

It’s still not loaded, but just under a thousand from Brisbane one way, so I would imagine perhaps a little cheaper than that… I might just stick with StarClass.

Strategic will have everything loaded Friday.

Interesting rumblings on Pprune about the viability of Strategic, their French entity announced it's shutting up shop today too.

Meanwhile they'd have to be busy trying to drum up business for their A330 VH-SSA as effective October this year they no longer have the ADF contract twice a week to the Middle East which was their bread and butter.

Despite the suspect tendering process/insider trading allegations, ADF has investigated the matter & found that the tendering process was all above board.....apparently.

Who got the job?

Just as a "heads up" to Brisbane and Townsville people - I have checked a few random days in December and Strategic are actually cheaper than Jetstar and heaps cheaper than Qantas, on some days in late December. Should be able to use the Jetstar best price garrantee although I expect that the service and legroom on the Stategic A320 would be a lot better than the Jetstar A320....

If anyone flys with them soon would be interested on hearing some opinions...

There is a trip report on airliners.net, I would post a link but I don't have enough posts to allow me to do that yet. I am flying with them on 31st of December TSV-DPS then return on 3rd of Jan.
:)

Does this sort of schedule suggest that the crew will overnight in Denpasar on a Friday night and Sunday night?

How long is the flight? 3-4 hours? I would have thought it would make more sense to do the return service on the same day and save on layover costs.

But then I am not in the airline business so I guess they know what they are doing.
