Tourist visa for Indonesia

We arrived this evening and did VOA. It only took a few minutes in the queue to pay and was pretty straightforward. Cost is AUD54 or IDR500K.
Also don't forget the Electronic Customs Declaration (which we did do online before we left - also pretty easy). There were quite a lot of people who hadn't done them, and had to fill out the form on the spot on their phones or the terminals provided.

I presume a Bali VoA is only valid for one entry into Indo, and can’t be used two weeks later at Jakarta (within the 30 days validity) - does anyone have any first hand experience?

Meant to post earlier, but I can't imagine why anyone would not want to do the eVOA. Saves hassle on arrival. Same with the customer declaration. Process was super smooth last Sunday.

Hi @SydneySwan - you will need a visa if you need to pass through immigration, even if just for an immediate transfer.

For your trip it will depend on whether QF can both a) through-check your luggage and b) issue a boarding pass for your JAL flight at SYD. If they can do both, you won't need to pass through immigration and won't need a visa.

If they advise that you need to check-in and/or drop luggage at the JAL counters at CGK - you will need a visa to do so, as these are landside. Only Garuda has an intl-intl airside transfer desk in T3.

At Sydney I checked luggage through and was given connecting boarding passes (I was sequence 001 out of Jakarta!). It all went to pot from there. QF41 was about 100 mins plus late departing which reduced transfer time in Jakarta to under 2 hours.

On disembarking I saw a couple of transfer staff and assumed that they would be looking for me. They said they were only looking for about 30 pax transiting to a Turkish Airlines flight and told me to just follow the transit signs. I did this only to be met by a wall of officials telling me I needed VOA. I held my ground and insisted I am a transit pax with a boarding pass so someone please just facilitate my progress up to departures. In the end one of the transfer staff found my name at the end of the long list of Turkish Airlines transfer pax and feeling a bit guilty then took me to an immigration official who cleared me to go through security and up to departures.

It certainly wasn't the easy ride I was hoping for.

Can confirm that the Visa On Arrival is still IDR500,000. Beware that they only take limited currencies in cash, and credit card payment has a 2% surcharge. They take AUD, USD, THB, SGD, HKD, and a few others.

After you get your receipt and token paper, the token paper will be used in exchange for the actual visa sticker, and you'll keep the receipt.

You'll need to submit your passport and boarding pass, and have your photo taken, at immigration. Some people have their fingerprints scanned. - If I recall correctly, I think it's your two index fingers, but you can opt out if you have security concerns.

After that you'll need to fill out a customs declaration either on your phone using the wifi in a limited space provided, if you haven't done it before your arrival. Otherwise, there's desktop computers available to do it on. You can do it before your arrival at this web site. https://ecd.beacukai.go.id/

Finally, you have a choice whether to register your phone IMEI so they can collect tax and track you. Phones over USD$500 are taxed at 40%. Visits of less than 90 days apparently don't require IMEI registration for SIMs bought at the airport only. If you buy a cheaper SIM in town, you'll need to do IMEI registration regardless of length of stay. Just about every cafe, restaurant, and hotel has Wifi, so it's quite realistic to just do that. I found that roaming didn't work at all during my stay.

Not that I’m aware of but if you are “transiting” (staying airside), then you technically don’t need a visa.

Currently, even overnighting in CGK is $50 but that should be gone by mid Feb.

Pre-Covid there was a free 3(?) day transit Visa but it didn’t return.

At least taking away the $50 one entirely is a significant improvement for those of using Indonesia as a stepping stone to the world.
