Top Three Holiday Photos

Somehow I forgot about this thread so I need to go back a few pages and see all the new posts which will no doubt trigger my anxiety on not being able to travel..

I'll share a few from my trip back to Cape Town last year. Its a yearly trip during the summer but I will be skipping this year for obvious reasons. Cape Town is one of my favourite cities and having free accomodation there means its one less expense to worry about. I have heard great things about the Silo Hotel though and I do plan on spending a night there to see what its like.

Bagno Vignoni, Tuscany.

"The ancient village of Bagno Vignoni is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the Val d'Orcia Natural Park. Thanks to the Via Francigena (which was the main route followed by pilgrims in antiquity who went to Rome), these thermal waters were found and have been used since Roman times. At the heart of the village is the "Square of sources", namely a rectangular tank, of sixteenth-century origin, which contains the original source of water that comes from the subterranean aquifer of volcanic origins." Niah Caves Sarawak

First you had to take a small boat over a 20 metre wide crocodile infested creek and then walk a kilometre or two along a slippery wooden walkway to get there. The 'light' is a reflection.

The caves shelter bats and swiflets which are the source of birds nests for the eponymous soup. They are also the site of ongoing archaeological research and evidence of 40,000 years of human activity have been found in them. They are also very big.

Looking out one of the cave mouths.

To give you an idea of the size of some of the chambers. These are 'normal size' shacks. You can see the poles etc used to climb to the ceiling and look for birds nests.
