A FORMER Jetstar employee has launched a $50,000 unfair dismissal action against the airline amid claims a manager told him it was a prerequisite for cabin crew staff to be gay.
Michael Galvin, who is gay, said the manager also allegedly told him his voice was not masculine enough for dealing with customers.

No, seriously, is this a real case? That is, is someone making this up?

If it is real, then JQ deserve the book thrown at them. I mean, what a comment: "Your voice isn't masculine enough." Geez...

I read this story yesterday and was immediately struck by the way it is written.
Firstly it says that

a manager told him it was a prerequisite for cabin crew staff to be gay.

then

the manager also allegedly told him his voice was not masculine enough for dealing with customers

so on one hand he is being told he has to be gay to be cabin crew then the next thing he's being told that he's not masculine enough.

Why would a manager say "You have to be gay" then complain that he's not masculine enough?
It's the most weirdly written story but I think that if the details as reported are correct then the 'manager' concerned needs to be dismissed himself.

I think I'll file this in the same basket as the DJ child in overhead story.

There is clearly more to this than will ever be publically released, and the journo is never going to file a story that ends with the complainant ending up looking like they could ever possibly be wrong. It's clearly in the today-tonight/ACA realm, perhaps it'll feature there soon?

This is wrong on so many levels.
I presume that the majority of the female FAs are straight? (just an assumption)
So why is it a prerequisite for a male FA to be gay?
I could not care what sexual orientation, race, gender etc a FA is, as long as they do their job.
This story just seems too weird to be fully true????????
