TomCat's new digs!

You are not going to regret having that yard space!

Can you put a gate on the back fence? Great access for yard stuff.

No gate, that will be someone elses back yard! That "road" you can see is the truck access for the developement behind us.

I keep looking at the neighbour to the right and how close they are to the rear fence - that shouldnt be allowed.

Leaving any marks on the slab would make it pretty obvious we've been on site without permission, which means they can halt the build. That's not something I'm willing to risk.
I do not like the sound pf that condition - that sounds like more of a builder not wanting you around to see/check what us being done.

Not sure of the rules in your state, but worth checking with the local council and licensing authorities about access rights - as of yesterday. The builder knows just how far you have to travel I can assure you.

With our renovation we'd come every day (mostly) with torches charged to check that what was being done was what the plans said to be done. Found a number of attempted 'cost savings' same day and stopped several (deliberate cost saving) mistakes before they had a chance to become permanent. Only one they got away with was using fibreglass batts instead of woollen batts.

Still regret that loss.

Just be sure you don't overdo your Christmas lights.

IMHO you can never OVERDO Xmas lights...

See 'Deck the Halls' dvd for instructions!

About the Big Island and Kona....

Where the lava is flowing is nearly the furtherest possible distance of any location from Kona. The 12,000 ' mountain in between also helps.

If interested this is a great map (which you can zoom in/oit and move around)

What the builder says, and what your actual supervisor says, are two different things. Builder says no access without supervision (OHS, liabitlity etc). Supervisor is happy for us to wander around at any time, but doesnt want us in the house without supervision. We're not missing out on visits, I can tell you that. But engraving the slab was just not on the cards (nor did I really want to TBH).

Like I've said upthread, we have an independent inspector going over the house at every stage with a fine tooth comb, so I have no concerns that anything will be missed.

And legally they can't keep us off the site, but they can refuse to work.

I agree, there needs to be a better minimum green space rule. Our current council has tight regulations about how much of the block must be left undeveloped. But the blocks are so small, unless you go double it can be quite hard.

We had a gum in our front yard, every August it would drop at least one branch, because it's windy in August. Finally had it removed as dangerous.
