TomCat's new digs!

Our huge bathroom mirrors and vanity in our rental apartment in Melbourne. Basically from just above tap level to ceiling. And side wall to shower alcove. They hold everything. Love 'em.

We got exactly the same, best investment ever! I got 2/3 for all my junk and he has the other 1/3.... or less :D Gives us a huge mirror and lots of space at the same time.

Sounds very exciting Tomcat!

Must be tremendously satisfying Putting your own stamp on your new pad and watching progress over the next few years.

Looking forward following on for the months ahead :)

To get a vacant spot in Melbourne I am guessing you are building a distance from the city of Melbourne.
We built a place in Shelley WA by the river south of Perth in 1975 and the all up cost ended up below $40,000 for a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home with a pool. Unfortunately prices changed and most homes are now priced quite a bit higher.

No. Besides, I don't fancy telling the whole forum my address

Re the Japanese toilet, its high on TV's wish list to put in at some point.

MrP hated the seat warmer and Japanese style toilet on our cruise. I liked it.
The toilets in Japanese hotels are just amazing - definitely need to have these in the new house TomCat:

We're owner building so if we want niches, we get niches (I love 'em, not just for shower use but for art works as well), but if the builder causes too much grief, perhaps a leaf out of Conrad Rangali's book may suffice? If you can't have a niche, use a box! I really like this concept, but I would prefer a niche.

I'd freeze my nellie's off in a MEL winter!!:p

Lots of niches in our ensuite, but more pretty than practical
The tiler who did a renovation on our bathrooms when we were in the townhouse was not keen on niches in the shower as he felt that it was almost impossible to fully waterproof them. A friend has one in her shower and it has not worn well and she wishes she hadn't had one put in.

You just have the niches sealed at the same time as the shower base and/or under the bath (if it's a spa), so waterproofing is not a problem. I have no idea why a niche would be any less hard wearing than any other option and would be a hang of a lot better than those awful dangle from the shower rose rearrangements.

The land in the photo looks rich and fertile so you should have great success with growing plants and trees.

we don't have any in the shower - we were a bit scarred by leaking showers in the past.

Advice to Tomcat - go overboard with wet sealing!!
