I might have 2-3 days as a stopover in Tokyo this September! I've been to Tokyo before but only done shopping, have not really gone and seen the sights. Any suggestions for 2 days? I would prefer a mixture of indoors and outdoors.
I'm just wondering as a Chinese-Australian and the grandson of a Nanjing massacre survivor, is it ethically appropriate for me to visit the Yasukuni Shrine of the Japanese War dead? Looking at the list of overseas politicians who have made a visit, it doesn't make great reading, at least from a Chinese perspective. Also looking at the history and leadership of the shrine, I do feel that I have some concerns. However, as I once heard from a Jewish person who worked in Berlin say, "the naz_s will not tell me where to go or not go". There is no such equivalent in Germany though and the Chinese have always stated that the Japanese have no contrition for their war crimes. On the other hand, a large proportion of Japanese in surveys say that even they do not think visiting such a monument is appropriate for them as Japanese nationals.
