Hi all,

After reaching WP on QF, I'm no longer in the hunt for SC's to justify the QF tax. I need to get from SYD-FRA within some particular time windows for work. My cheapest and quickest 1-stop option in J is on SG, but I would need to do the final leg flight on a Scoot 787. This will be a daytime flight and I don't want to sleep. I'm thinking I can rough it out. Other options available all require a few more hours more travel time, either via 2 stops or longer lounge visits. Other workable options include AY (includes legs on Qatar/Cathay), BA and Turkish Airlines (legs on Malaysia Airlines). So the question is, does the compromise in Scoot J make up for the additional 3 to 5 hours duration in trip time? Or should I use AY/BA to max benefits of WP? Cost matrix FYIflights.JPG

To answer your question -

1. Re Scoot - Scoot 787 on a day trip ain't that bad. J in Scoot is simply PE on other carriers. You will get a decent meal and a bit wider seat than Y ... It's not bad for a morning flight as long as you are only looking to get from A to B with minimum time ... If you are looking for the J experience, I'd recommend other airlines (read not LCCs) and there is, simply a huge variety of J seats to try.

2. Re maximising WP benefits - depends on what benefits you look to enjoy - extra baggage, F lounges, priority boarding etc ... if it is a work trip and you are short on time, then the priority benefits might help, albeit, marginally IME. Another point to note is that as WP you will earn at least 100% more points on any of the participating carriers - more points for that upgrade to F ;)

That being said, given that you are WP and work is paying for the trip (assuming here) why not enjoy all the J cabins that you can ... and of course, have to take into account - your personal circumstances re staying away from home base for the additional day or so

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My choice would be longer layovers and more lounge time;)
Mine too. I would not knowingly choose an LCC if there were full service options available unless they significantly extended my trip. But I like long trips...I barely even register less than 8 hrs as a trip and I don't mind lounge time at all -I like to stretch and walk around, have a snack, use the facilities and enjoy a beverage or two. So I would vote for AY/BA combo.
