TK Miles&Smiles 50% bonus buy miles promotion

only had a cursory glance but couldn't see a thread about this - looks like buy up to 50k miles for 20euro/ 1,000 miles

also ability to buy status miles at 50euro/1000 miles

have zilch experience with miles&smiles as they rejected my status match but would be interested to hear others thoughts.

It seems TK is getting in on the bonus mile promotions. Receive a bonus 50% when purchasing miles before 30 June.

Maximum 50,000 p.a. and miles cost 0.02Euro each (€20/1,000).

Any sweet spots with their program when it comes to redemptions? Seeing as the maximum purchase will be 50,000, what does that get us?

I can't recall seeing an earning table, but here are a couple of examples:

IST-FRA in Y is 10,000 and J 12,500 points.
IST-BKK in Y is 25,000 and J 35,000 points

They also have an any seat award equivalent with higher points required.

but it appears that there are changes afoot to the programme. the new website isnt rendering properly on my work PC but it appears that there is a stadardisation across the awards (TK and partner) and that AU to Central Western Europe is only 52,500 pts one way, equating to E700 (just a touch over $1,000) under this promo. Very good value.

I never thought I'd say this but I need a blogger to post about this and crunch the numbers.

If these tickets have to be booked by phone I would expect similar phone support to AV - trying to change a flight booking was a nightmare last year.

SIN-IST-JFK 120k return in J
SIN-IST-LHR 70k return in J
SIN-IST-GRU 140k return in J
SIN-IST-JNB 120k return in J

on TK metal only (they fly to more countries than any other airline). No reference to Australia as TK doesn't fly here (KUL, BKK or SIN are closest ports)

and requires significantly more points than AV, US and AA.

With the current promo 75,000 miles (50k + 50% bonus) will cost you AUD$1500 (50 x 20 Euros). The sweet spot I think is SIN/KUL/BKK-Europe in J on TK metal for about $1400 return. I wouldnt bother with their *A partner awards (stick with AV).

TK is a total lottery on their J products IST-Europe - everything from fully-flat A333/77Ws to CDG right down to 3x3 narrowbodies to third rate ports (I was lucky to get 2x2 deluxe recliners to OSL).

TK award tickets can be booked online, but *A have to be by phone.

If you're looking to go somewhere obscure in Europe or Central Asia then I reckon its a sweet deal - their route map is pretty impressive:

SIN-IST-JFK 135k return in J
SIN-IST-LHR 90k return in J
SIN-IST-GRU 150k return in J
SIN-IST-JNB 135k return in J

As the mileage cost is the same for TK or partners you could do SIN-LHR on SQ or TG etc.

Having Aus as the departure point for these routes the costs are.
AUS-JFK 150k return in J
AUS-LHR 105k return in J
AUS-GRU 165k return in J
AUS-JNB 150k return in J

Assuming you have 2 accounts and book 2 x oneways then the AUS-NA/SA is about $3k plus taxes. GRU would nopt be possible in a single promo period but would be about $3.3k is this promo was repeated. CWE would be about $2.1k. I'm not sure how this stacks up against LM but the prices are not quite as good as USDM but about the same as AA. Still comprable to Y fares on the routes. I'd be happy to pay $2k for a J rtn to the EU (or even $3k for F).
