Tips on Cancelling Flex Flight for Full refund?

for those things, but I see references elsewhere to a "24 hour from booking" free cancellation policy.
I have had experience with the 24 hour rule, where I booked a few FLEX Y's in the month of April, May, Aug, Sep 2020. This was the time when the QF released DSC for QBR bookings ... I had booked a Flex Y, I realised that I need to book a different date, so called up CC and I told the agent on the phone that I booked a Flex Y last evening but I need to cancel it and book another ticket, but this time as QBR so that I can use the DSC .. the agent said "oh yes, it's not 24 hours yet, so you can change/cancel without any fee"

OK that's interesting! Seems like this is something completely different to Same Day No Mistake that is unpublished. The only reference on qantas.com about cancelling for free within 24 hours is in relation to flights to / from the US under DOT rules, otherwise there is nothing else I can find. I've actually been meaning to ask about this so next time I need to call Qantas for something I'll see if I can find out any additional info and share back here unless someone else is able to provide any details.

Yes, since Covid QF have been doing everything they can do to retain cash and pushing credit vouchers I think we all understand this.
When all travel started to go south last year the radio button that enabled one to select the option of a refund was the first to be hidden. QF could have done better and reworded the current pop up about credits especially when cancelling award flights as this is confusing and there has been many comments on this site along the lines of "will I get a credit or a refund" or "if I cancel my awards booking, will I ......". IIRC when cancelling award booking these will by default refund taxes to the original form of payment, the old pop up used to be along the lines of "you will be charged 6000 points and taxes will be refunded to the original form of payment".

@Ade and @dylarr As for the same day vrs 24 hour change rules I also have quite a few years of dealing with this, things that I have noticed and IIRC:
  • If you book a red deal and want to change it online on the same day the QF system will want to charge you the change fee, if you want to cancel this is not permitted on this fare type, so either way a call is required to sort it out.
  • If you book flex fare and want to change it online on the same day the QF system works as normal i.e no change fee. If you choose to cancel you will get slugged the $99 cancelation fee. Again a call to QF will be required.
  • When calling QF it comes down to the agent I have been told the policy is same day meaning changes permitted up until midnight, others have said ok it is within 24 hours. 99% of the time the later is honoured and if not I just HUACA.
