Hello.
With all the past news about delays at Sydney International and Qantas site currently saying they recommend arriving 4 hours before departure, I wanted to ask what the group mind is recommending for Sydney now. We leave Sept 5 at 10am. Is 4 hours REALLY necessary? Is security THAT overloaded still?

Thanks!

What class of travel? In F/J you can get through security faster. In whY it’s a coin toss and Monday mornings can be manic.

Well. I'll be darned. Stayed at the Travelodge and got the Space Shuttle. Literally from walking out the hotel door to sitting in the Club, Barely 50 minutes!!!!!!! Not crowded, Everyone lovely and I have to say I was surprised how good the Economy check in was. Hadn't even seen it as this is the first Economy International for many years..

I had similar experience last week for 9:50am departure.

Check-in ~3 hours before departure, immigration very quick but then stuck at security for quite some time as I was chosen Guinea pig for their training.

So 3 hours before departure should be plenty of time? I will depart 3pm this coming Thursday and fly in SQ J class.

Lounge time is not much importance to me in this instance as I don’t find the Silverkris lounge in Sydney particularly engaging and I will have 5+ hours in the much better lounge in Changi after that flight.

Isnt that the way it should be at all times?

We caught that flight a couple of weeks ago. Check-in no wait, passport check no wait & pretty short line at security with only a couple of minutes wait. Mrs RB had a TRS claim with only a 1 person wait & then a walk to lounge. Crowd in lounge thinned out for a Canadian flight- not a lot of spare seats throughout our stay. Butter chicken was a good brew, Mumm was cold

Thanks a lot- that doesn't sound too bad. So arriving around noon should work more than fine, I am glad to hear. I assume that the Mumm you mention is just the fake NZ Mumm Malborough which they had a couple of months back? If so, we'll stick to a bottle of Tiger beer and get on the proper champagne on board only.

Just had the breeziest experience at Sydney International since pre-Covid. Instant check in (SQ Business), no queue at the “Business and First” emigration lane and got an empty security lane assigned as soon as my J class ticket had been spotted. From my DiDi to the SQ lounge in about 15 minutes.

Now the SQ lounge is a different story today and a total zoo. Something has to give I guess…

I’m flying on BA16 tomorrow and would like to check in as early as possible (around T-4) to maximise Flounge time (especially before the dirty QF1 pax crowd the lounge 😉) but I don’t think BA check in opens until T-3. I’m also staying at the Travelodge (on my way down from Newcastle now).
