Time for a Qantas sale? Another DSC offer?

In fairness though, are DSC promotions a moot point right now? I mean QF has now stated all you need to do is take a single QF flight before your membership year end and you'll get your status extended by a further 12 months. I suppose a benefit of DSC might be towards lifetime status but that's a longer term concern I would say.

There are people out there who haven’t yet achieved status!

Depends what your anniversary month is. For those with Jan and Feb anniversaries, yes their status was extended for this year, but they are now in the earning period to retain it for next year.

Doubtful that QF will extend status further beyond the Dec 22 anniversary already announced, so DSCs will help for those who are working to retain beyond the current extension.

My QFF year expires end of April and my U.S. trip is end of June so a DSC offer is certainly of value to me - would get me a lot of the SC's needed to retain gold.

Likewise hanging for a DSC because I'm hoping to go to the USA this northern summer but if there's a sale before then (especially if it includes QF7/8) I'll take that.
Received this today:
For 3 days only, book your return flights to Los Angeles on qantas.com to save an extra $100 AUD on eligible fares. Offer ends 16 March (11.59pm AEDT) for travel from 14 March 2022 to 24 November 2022 (outbound flights from AU exclude blackout period 1 April to 19 April 2022, 18 June to 10 July 2022, 16 September to 26 September 2022). Use promo code TAKEOFF100 at the checkout and take off on your next trip for less.

OK so there'll probably an offer in the next week or two because I just decided to bite the bullet and booked a trip. I wasn't fixed on the US, was open to Europe, and I saw an extremely reasonable fare for early August, just under $4.1k for Premium Economy return SYD-LHR. I have avoided the Air Passenger Duty by starting my return leg out of Amsterdam plus will get extra SCs for the BA flight from there to Heathrow. Also was able to book the trip with a 24 hour stopover in Singapore on the way back which I like to re-adjust to the Asia-Pacific time zone.

If we do get a DSC offer, I'll use the balance of my TravelPass on either a SYD-CNS trip (nets 50 each way if you pick a Flexi fare and stopover in Brisbane) or perhaps a one way business ticket between Sydney and Auckland (have family there but no idea when I'll be able to visit).

My dream would be to have a DSC offer coincide with a sale to LHR (wishful thinking I know). The prices for the timing I need if I am to go is higher than I would like.

If they did a DSC offer in about a week it would be pretty close to the timing for when they did it last year.

You predicted correctly ;)

Can you use credit vouchers? Guessing not?

EDIT: Yes you can!

Hopefully not a silly question, but why on earth would anyone choose double points over double status credits? Even if you already hit status for the program year, wouldn't it be beneficial to accrue those extra status credits either to get better status (e.g.. Gold to Platinum) or to increase your lifetime status credits accrued to get closer to lifetime Gold, Platinum, etc.? What am I missing here?!

If you're not a frequent flyer I suppose.

Generally I agree but if you're already LTG, have no hope of ever reaching LTP, and one flight will get your Platinum status extended, then maybe points club is the only goal left....

Hopefully not a silly question but thought I'd ask, as it presently stands I'll comfortably earn QF Gold this year (even without status extensions or what have you). With the cheap trans-tasman J airfares on offer combined with the DSC promo, I'm tempting to go all out and get Platinum this year. If I were to do so, how would the status credit roll over work for next year? Would I be capped at the Gold level of 250 status credits or the Platinum level of 500 status credits that I attained this program year?

Just to clarify my thinking:
Suppose I earn 1500 SCs this year flying JQ and QF with status credits 440-1500 being earned within a month of my program year end. I should then be eligible for 150 status credits (loyalty bonuses at 500, 1000 and 1500 SCs accrued) to then be applied to my 2022/2023 program year starting in December. At the same time, I'll hit QF Green tier towards the end of my program year meaning I could apply the 50 SCs there onto the 2022/2023 status year as well with a further 50 SCs being earned in 2022/2023 for re-qualifying for QF Green. So all in all between the 500 SC roll over cap, followed by the 150 SC earned on loyalty bonus and the 100 SC earned on QF Green tiers, I would start the new program year with 750 SCs, for which I would need to earn a further 450 SCs in 2023 to keep Platinum. Then depending on my ambitions and how things are I could just not worry about climbing the status ladder in 2024 being comfortably in Platinum territory and having guaranteed QF Gold status in 2025 due to the soft landing provided to Platinums. Am I missing something here?

Update: I bit the bullet and booked a Business Sale fare from SYD to AKL (connecting in MEL) and AKL to MEL (connecting in SYD) for the return for January 2022, just as my new program year starts for ~$1100 AUD. By my calculations this will net me 480 status credits on this one trip. Combine that with the 20 status credits I'm carrying over from this year, the 50 status credit loyalty bonus and the 50 status credit Green tier bonus I'll redeem at the beginning of my program year, I'll hit 600 status credits just a month and a half in on my program year.

I was thinking about going for Platinum but don't think it's worth it. Yes, I'll have access to QF F lounges when I travel internationally and a few odd benefits here or there but in the grand scheme of things I won't notice it. Instead, this Kangaroo won't have to worry about retaining Gold in 2023, and can instead focus his travels on keeping the DL Medallion Gold he qualified for in late July this year.
