Hi everyone,

Booked a flight on Expedia.com.au from Sydney to Munich, depart on Cathay Pacific at 14:30, arrive in Hong Kong at 22:20, and then switch to a Swiss International flight which departs for Zurich at 23:15 (then going on to Munich)

My question is... that's an extremely tight connection for an international flight. Is there any chance of actually making it? Will Swiss hold the flight if Cathay is delayed? They are ticketed together... better make sure my travel insurance is in order?

Thanks!

If it is a single ticket, then you don't need to worry about insurance for the connection; in the event of missing the connection, they will be obligated to sort you out

If its one ticket no worries i guess.
CX often have put me on 50 mins transfers in HKG and not once have i had a problem so far. Of course i could just be lucky but have done it a few times ;)

As an agent, there's no way i'd ticket you with that connection between 2 different airlines, I wont even fly a connection that tight on QF domestic via Sydney.

Its all well and good if by being on the one ticket they are responsible for sorting it, but it still leaves you delayed if LX dont hold their flight.

In practical terms you will need to go through security when you arrive in HKG hopefully having your LX BP given to you in SYD other wise it is off to the transfer desks. It is pretty tight - what class of travel and will you have any checked bags?

Thanks everyone. Fingers crossed! It's economy, and only carry-on luggage so hopefully it will be ok. Bizarre that they'd book it so tight... but that connection is available on plenty of other sites as well so its not just an expedia anamoly.

The min. connect time in HKG is 1hr, though those are times which haven't changed in years despite the traffic increasing considerably.

If you do miss it, and the airline denies and accommodation or compensation, you could always go back to Expedia due to their selling a flight inside the min. connect time.

Ill cross my fingers for you, just power walk in HKG!

It is 50 minutes for CX-CX. Perhaps there is an implementation problem with these rules!

Transiting between the one airline is one thing, but when its two airlines, and when he's likely to need to line up and get a boarding pass in HKG, its a bit tight.

The problem is the airlines each have their own defined min. connect time, but then there is a standard min. connect time set for each airport, whether the airlines he's on are less, I have no idea.

Hmm, do Swiss have a through check-in agreement with Cathay? That might make things a bit easier. I've emailed Expedia expressing my concerns, hopefully they will check it out!
