Hi all,

Just seen on www.smh.com.au

Tiger to charge to check in at airport

smh said:
That list grew a little longer on Monday, after low-cost carrier Tiger Airways announced a $10 charge will apply to passengers who choose to check-in at the airport from July 1.
The fee will apply to travellers with no check-in baggage and can be avoided if they check-in online before their flight, the airline says.

Once they made OLCI possible this was the next step.

I bet it will catch people out.....

Just when I thought Tiger couldn't surprise me any more.

Doesn't seem that unreasonable to charge for in person check in if the online version is available

Should help reduce queues for those who do have to check in with an agent

And now web-checkin will open 7 DAYS before departure instead of 48hrs which is good.

What happens if you OLCI then lose your BP...

Just another thing to add to the list of "Reasons why not to fly Tiger"

People will see this and complain about it, yet these people will keep flying on them.

Alright for you but my 92 year old MIL who still flies occasionally has never yet put her finger on a computer keyboard and if we are away(which is frequently)no way she can she OLCI.

Maybe Tiger should call themselves Ryanair Australia

Wonder how long till they charge for toilets......

Well of course she'd atleast have bags i suspect, and of course would not be travelling Tiger..

And your MIL is certainly not Tiger's demographic, as Tiger is obviously a internet based booking service too.

Go on, be a good son in law and OLCI for her. Gotta get you brownie points!

Can someone tell me what the deal is with the code ZZM for 'all melbourne airports', where did they pull that from?

But then she would have the same issue actually making the booking with TT in the 1st instance ; also , would she be travelling with only hand baggage?

There are reasons why TT would not be the likely carrier for me to choose, but I cannot see this as a reason to avoid them at all

She plans ahead-booking would be no problem. She is a HCO passenger. If no family around at time for OLCI-bad luck. And travelling the MCY sectors you do see a different demographic to Citiflyer sectors.

But there are still 2 other airlines to travel.. Like i said that type of flyer is certainly not TT demographic!

The vast majority of flyers are not AFF readers. She like many who lived through the depression is very price sensitive.Again like many her age she has a stubborn streak-if she doesn't want to spend extra you wont convince her otherwise.
She is also not a QF,JQ or DJ demographic. And despite what many think here on sectors such as MCY her type is not uncommon.

this isn't a deal breaker for me, I refused to fly them before OLCI was introduced and I will refuse to do so after OLCI was introduced

Personally I do not see a problem with this, given OLCI is now available. Afterall Tiger use internet for booking, and using internet for checking in is fine with me ..... except of course if you have check-in luggages. They have to make money somehow given their low fares.

At least people still have a choice here, by flying QF, DJ or even JQ.

Last two times when I OLCIed on Tiger, I was allocate row 2. For QF, when I OLCIed, it was row 29. From this, in theory, Tiger treated me better than QF
