Tiger Airways cuts more routes as readies a big SYD-MEL hit | Plane Talking
Tiger is dropping its Sydney-Brisbane, Sydney-Sunshine Coast, Melbourne-Mackay and Melbourne-Rockhampton routes from August 1, setting up what could be a major frequency and fare blitz on the Sydney-Melbourne corridor.
A spokesperson for the airline said the dropped routes were very popular, and Tiger was keen to return to them in the future, but only after it had achieved more reliability in its 10 jet operations.
Cheers

Good luck to getting more slots in Sydney, even if they could do it, they have no dedicated gates in Sydney, only a couple of shared ones so frequency might be a bit of an issue. Personally I wouldnt be dumping poopular and proven routes in order to join the otp scrum in syd. Even the airines with dedicated gates have trouble getting aircraft in and out of there.

But Tiger seems to be fond of quickly axing routes and rejigging their network on a weekly basis. Perhaps reliability might be a little better if they stuck to their plans.

So popular they're dropping them.

Frankly, i dont believe anything this "airline" says.

Schedule, maintenance, new routes, old routes, financials, none of it is consistent or believeable.

More happy customers with longstanding Tiger bookings. Not.

WelL they can kiss goodbye to gate 40 for several hours a day while dj's A330 does it however long turns. Whats its departure times again.....8:30am and 17:30pm? Oops! There goes peak hour....

Thats not quite how things work. Tiger have a slot schedule in place with SACL, and they dont loose out because Virgin has some big aircraft in the way. Tiger has access to numerous gates at Sydney, from memory about five.

And Melbourne. Virgin's A330 only is accessible to 1 gate....that Tiger overnights an A320 on between 10pm-7am plus numerous parts of the day.

Well there goes the holiday my wife and I were planning to have on the Sunshine Coast in August. Tickets were cheap of course but now worthless. I can see a request to my bank to dispute the charges coming up shortly.

I really really must try in future not to make another booking on Tiger, even if free or they give me $100 per ticket. The collateral damage (hotel cancellations, connecting flights, etc) easily outweighs any benefits of cheap fares.

Let's hope they really fall foul of CASA and their air operator's certificate is revoked. It's the least they deserve I think.

I reckon CASA are just as toothless as what Tiger is, can't really see CASA shutting them down though. I think it will be a situation where TT pull out of AUS before are AOC's are taken

Tiger talks of reliability but they can't even get their tax return in on time when they have 12 months warning.

It's good having them there as they keep Jetstar and Virgin honest (well more honest) but I couldn't bring myself to travel with them, they insist on passenger commitment but can't commit themselves.

There may be pressure on them, but it may not be from CASA

I'm thinking, if OTP is a problem, that maybe consumer bodies may have had a word with them.

(All pure speculation of course).

Taking on on SYD-MEL, if true, is a major mistake. They will get zero (or near to it) business customers and will have to drop fares to the absolute minimum to compete to get other customers who for a few dollars more (because they will match) could fly Qantas or Virgin and get more reliability and even service.

Oz Jet springs to mind, and here they are now....
