Two friends recently wanted to go to Hobart for the Autralia day weekend and booked Tiger. The departure flight sat on teh tarmac for 40 minutes because a staff member was late. During that time the other staff just joked around and made themselves meals. On return the night flight was an hour late then on arrival the crew said that some carry on luggage had not been tagged and obviously not weighed and should have excess paid. And Tiger only allow 7kg anyway !! They would not let the other passengers disembark for another 45 minutes, saying the fasten seat belt signs have not been turned off, until the owners of the untagged luggage came forward. My friends did not get a cheap flight. The return cost $350 each. They did not get home until 3am and missed a days work the next day. I have flown that last flight from Hobart with Tiger also and have not left Hobart until 1am !! But to keep people locked up for a few dollars is just unbelievable and to me could almost be called false imprisonment. I feel we urgently need an airline watchdog to set standards for the Industry. This type of treatment of decent fare paying people is disgusting

If true, such an incident is very bad. A complaint to Tiger wont do much, but if it can be corroborated, some media attention might sway them a little.

There are certainly some moves on to get the airlines to lift their game (see the news article referenced in Complaints against airlines soaring). It may take a bit of time, though. For the moment, the best you can do is complain to the airline, and perhaps make a police complaint if you believe that there was a false imprisonment.

Living in Adelaide, and with a mum in Hobart, I tend to use tiger for their direct ADL-HBA flights.
So far I've been lucky with minimal delays but this story is mind boggling if true.
I work on the principal with Tiger of expect little or nothing, and I'll be satisfied.

Yep, spewing DJ ditched the direct HBA-ADL service. It was at a convenient time, too.

I don't know how many times I have said this, you get what you pay for.

Tiger is the cheapest and passengers are treated accordingly.

Everyone knows what Tiger is like yet people continue to fly with them!

Sorry, no sympathy. I've got home plenty of times around 3am but have never missed a day of work.

The obvious advice is to ignore that airline in the future.

I do have some sympathy, no airline has a right to detain you for anything that is not outlined in the CAR's, if they truely used the unclaimed bags as a reason for not letting people off the flight I would be talking to someone about illegal detentions etc, that is a disgrace if the reasons given are true. I would have esclated the matter immediately to police, they are well briefed on detention rights!

"Tiger are terrible and abuse Australian standards".

Yes, sweetie... And so does News Corp. coughing to Tiger HQ will change about as much at Tiger as coughing to Rupert Murdoch will change News Corp. Save your breath, and take your business elsewhere. It's always hard to learn a lesson where financial loss and/or great inconvenience is involved, but it's a lesson learned nonetheless. Stay away from LCCs if you value customer service and punctuality (not to mention comfort!).

And in many cases - not once, not twice, but repeatedly. Then rant about it.
