New markets announced ex MEL
PER is overnight which makes good sense and aircraft utilization...surprised it wasnt higher on the list of announcements.
ASP aslo interesting as DJ had planned to use their new EMB jets on that type of market to re-enter the centre after dumping it some time ago.
This puts DJ in a very difficult position and underlines that Tiger will cause them real grief as they absolutely depend on SME absolute best fare of the day type punters on main routes and on leisure routes Tiger prices will hurt their profitablility...

This may also put some pressure on QF, given their ASP red-e-deal fares are some of the highest on a per km basis. Compare MEL-ASP on QF $286 for red e-deal versus MEL-AYQ (actually slightly further) which is $216 for red e-deal.

$50 to Alice and $60 to Perth! Brilliant!

Good to see once again that Tiger imposes no black-out dates at Christmas and the school holidays.

Keep em coming!

Look at all the dots they're putting on the MAP:

Are any of their routes not going to either depart or arrive at Melbourne?

And how many SMEs fly to Alice Springs or from Melbourne to Rockhampton or Mackay? Don't you think it very strange that they haven't announced MEL-BNE or MEL-SYD where there are actually plenty of SMEs?

Funny that New Zealand finds its way onto the map. Who knows, we may see a paw print on AKL or CHC soon enough.

Give it time they will be on the triangle.
What I was referring to is that Qantas still has a strangle hold on most of the deals with the big end of town...ie my company which provides many mil of $ a year for Dom and INT travel gets very good disc and we dont even look at DJ whereas my brother works for a SME type business of 25-75 people who insist on using the absolute best fare of the day ...this is the at risk business DJ depend on ,especially on the triangle, and I know for a fact they will move for a dollar and DJ will find it very difficult to match them. If you dont have yr corp locked into deals and are relying on price only yr introuble..JQ are in the same boat..If they were part of the QF FF scheme and not planning their own that may have protected them a bit.
All carriers will probobly be less profitable as Tiger ramp up their aircraft numbers...if they dont send themselves broke first

I think you missed my point. The triangle is infinitely more profitable to fly than the routes that cough has chosen, even in a startup situation and despite competition. There is a very good reason why Tiger is not starting up on these routes - and it's not by choice. Can you work it out?

I, for one, am not assuming that it will not be separate… I am QFF WP, and JQ sent me that bloody long quiz,
had it not been for interest on AFF I would never had completed it. If JQ try to define themselves away from QFF (in Oz), they will fail!

Already I am pissed off that as QFF WP, I can’t enter the Star Alliance lounges, in ports, where JQi has deals to let in their Star Class passengers. QAN is too black & white between its brands in some places, vs. shades of grey in others! Not that (domestically) HBA or OOL passengers, count for much in the QF number crunch, but this isn’t about leisure vs. business (so many airline brands in Oz have tried and die on that division; we ain’t big enough) it’s about RECOGNITION!

Lack of LCC (i.e JQ) competition?

:p I have no idea...and the answer would be?

Yes I can
Unfortunately you seem to be dreaming if you think they wont go on markets into or out of SYD. The greatest impediment in operating thru SYD is gaining slot times for arrivals and departures . At peak times it is already near the 80 per hour max so they have get slots that can fit with the LCC reqmnts to maximise aircraft utilization.I think you flatter yourself and yr company thinking they may be scared or anything DJ/JQ or QF will do.The limp response to tiger pricing by JQ and no response by DJ just lets Tiger build
a customer base and great publicity. Continue to pay no attention as they expand and you may as well canx those orders for new planes ,you wont need them...your customers will be flying with someone else

Clearly the answer to my question was "no".

I'm not flattering anyone that Tiger will be scared of anyone's competitive response - that's your interpretation. Thanks for the warning to pay attention - I don't know why we hadn't noticed Tiger until now. I'll just go shoot some staff to wake the others up.

man im still no closer...only things i can come up with egarding why theyve started up where they have are using underutilised airports with lower fees (ROK, MKY), lack of LCC competition (PER, ASP) established base & connectivity (DRW), and established leisure market (OOL), gives them some control over flights n prices.

As for the triangle, i remember reading that AirAsia Long Haul is considering giving SYD a miss due to high fees. Could be same deal for TT. Then again, that didn't stop DJ starting on the triangle back in '00.

I got no idea...enlighten me somebody...

I think two things:

1. Extra support of the local airports where they have chosen to fly to now (and also they have chosen their Intl departure points)
2. The 'Golden Triangle' isn't that special unless you have high frequency flights.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I can think of 2 reasons not to buy this fare.

1) Avalon

2) $99 compared to $50

You're going to have to panic better than that, Jetstar! :p

Then again, they don't have to worry as much with PER, no threat of 'Double the Difference'...

and a 3rd reason

The dates!!

Jetstar offers their "special" in the cough-end month of the travel calendar - February only. (the other cough end travel month is November)

Tiger is from 1 Dec to 30 March.

I think Jetstar is starting sniff their own PR.
