Tiger Airways Australia hunting for a second base - Low Cost Airline News

Tiger Airways Australia, after successfully launching seven new routes in its first week of operations, announced that, due to the level of demand for its low fare domestic airline, it is hunting for a second hub in Australia to base its expanding fleet.
Chris Ward, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Australia, said “the fantastic reaction from Australians to Tiger's entry has been nothing short of phenomenal. We have had over 90% of seats sold in November, which was certainly beyond my expectations. It goes to show there is plenty of pent up demand for true low fare competition”.

As a result of the reaction to Tiger Airways’ entry into the Australian market, the airline will examine suitable locations early next year for placing aircraft, crews and the necessary ground support.

The establishment of an additional base will result in two aircraft being located overnight at the successful airport with the expectation that the number of aircraft would be increased to five over a three-year period.

“The positioning of aircraft will result in significant economic benefits to the successful region in jobs, tourism and an expanded network of destinations,” Mr Ward stated.

The announcement comes in the same week as the airline took delivery of another brand new aircraft from the Airbus factory taking the fleet in Australia to four A320 aircraft.

A final decision will be made early next year regarding the location of the new Tiger Airways base.

90% of seats sold in November?

Hope that the second base ends up somewhere in QLD...

WHY HELLO HELLO EVERYBODY or do you have special names, like frequent flyers or something. Well i am interested in aviation, so meh, i thought i would join this really cool website.

Well if you are wondering about my name choice: "imapringle", i actually couldn't think of a name, mind blank!, and i am eating pringles at my computer currently, orginal flavour peoples, so i said, mmmmm, how about "imapringle", so yeah, thats the story

Anyway i have HEAPS of Tiger Trips ahead. Mainly only 14.95, 9.95 and 49.95 fares to the SUNSHINE state of course. I will post my "reports" here i guess

I am EXCITED for tiger as they are doing so well here in Aus. They will do much better HERE than in Sinapore. I wouldn't be SUPRISED if tiger became bigger in AUSTRALIA than in Singapore and surrounds. My Tip for the Second Base is either Gold Coast, Brisvegas or Adelaide. Perth is too far away from all the cities to offer CHEAP fares. Darwin the same, but Gold Coast would be a good move cause that where i would go, and it sound like thats where everyone else goes too!!. Adelaide has done good for J*, so i imagine tiger could do good business there too. So yeah, what do you all think, and who likes my name!!
