Umm no. "Nice setting" doesn't include brass :p

Eep, one pierced through the skin? Pass.

If he is spending $50k. I'm assuming he has many millions in net worth. If that's the case then he won't bother shopping at Tiffany.

Get the box off eBay.... Get the jeweller to engrave it
.....$45k on the home loan or their kids trust fund?

Ha ha - wife has a couple already she offered to donate to the cause (not that they came with rings in them)!

Appreciate all the replies and I certainly agree with the general sentiment that value for money and Tiffany & Co. aren’t usually a natural fit. I also like the idea of them making the purchase memorable by flying to DXB for a custom made ring has a lot of merit.

I have PM’d a few responders to take up their offers of contact info for me to pass on to my son. Thank you especially to them for offering.

In due course I hope I can report back what the final decision was – and maybe a pic for the ladies!

lol I got a really good one! After living together for years prior to doing the thing ... I was instructed not to buy an engagement ring  Last year I tried to get her one in HKG (20th) however, the lady's not for turning - this one really likes her holidays. I'll even admit we had a backyard wedding, IIRC the honeymoon at Bederra Is cost at least 3x more than the wedding :D

Can relate to that Amaroo -the engagement "ring" I gave my wife was an Omega watch (she has always put practicality first) - but I have made amends with some "impractical" offerings since.

And whether or not she said "YES"
