I'll hit Qantas gold status at the end of my next flight to Sydney. However I'll be flying out of Sydney a few days later (ie before I receive my gold card). Does anyone know if I can get the gold status benefits by flashing my silver card instead?

The status will update on your account after a few days. Then it will show on your boarding pass, which will get you all the benefits of gold (when flying with Qantas). I've found some international lounges still want to see the physical card, which may complicate things.

Your status should upgrade on-line and print out on your boarding passes accordingly. It may take a day or so for it to update online Ie when the status credits post for the flight you have taken).

If your boarding pass doesn't show the relevant status, they can check that in the lounge for you. Keep your silver card a 'proof' of your membership just in case.

The question comes down to how soon after you get the qualifying SCs will your account be upgraded to Gold. If the flights are on QF, the SCs should post straight away, so your account should tick up at the same time, or maybe a day later. If its, say, a QR flight, the SCs (pitiful as they may be) may not post for a few days.

Your new status should then appear on your QF boarding pass and this will unlock many of the benefits. Having your Silver card is probably superfluous, except for any QF person you meet being able to read the number and checking on their terminal your new status.

Mine went from QF PS to QF SG overnight!
QF PS before ADL - PER then the next time I checked, it was still PS, this was expected via my count.
PER - MEL, dep PER at about 4pm, immediately after this flight, (this is when the over night came into play), got to MEL about 11pm, then on my flight MEL - ADL, 8am it was SG.

Thanks all! I'm on a Qantas flight to Sydney so hopefully the status updates reasonably quickly.
