A Big Tick goes to Virgin Customer Service yesterday.

I booked four SYD-BNE-LAX fares on Sunday, thinking the $1500 pp was as low as it would probably get for the January holiday season. Woke up this morning and found they had dropped to $935! Rang Virgin Plat line and asked if I could cancel the Getaway bookings and re-book. The $1600 penalty was buffered slightly by the fact I would still end up $400 in front, so I proceeded to cancel.
During our discussion, Hayley (VA) became so compassionate about our autistic son, she sought to have the penalty reduced. I ended up a whopping $1300 in front and was wished the very best for the journey, as well as offering special assistance with boarding/disembarking.

Crosses to me - for being so impatient in the first place and booking too soon!

I don't think you were impatient at all.
You grabbed what you thought was a good deal at the time. None of us has a crystal ball.
Have a fabulous trip .

Really does show the pacific airfare war is well and truly underway.

I’ve seen some crazy $700-$800 stuff recently.

Should the AA/QF tieup be rejected I think these fares will vanish.

I found a old itinerary from 2005 the other week while cleaning up. Paid $2500 Economy for Jan which was fairly standard back then!
