I thought I would do a trip report for my recent trip that covered Zurich, Vienna and Prague as they are not destinations that I have seen in many reports here. Timing was mid/ late November.
Given this is a frequent flying website, I'd be remiss not to mention the flight! Flew Etihad J - and like the fact the upper deck is all J. There is just generally a sense of quiet up there. Flight load was relatively light in J - had no one in front, behind or across the aisle so even more private. I am a fan of sitting around row 12 as it's sufficiently far from the bar area and the bathrooms.
I am a fan of the EY A380 J product - comfortable seat and bed, dine on demand, suite style so quite private, quality food and good service (generally!). This flight was no exception, even though I did sleep for about 9 hours in total on the way to Abu Dhabi.
Started off in the EY lounge in Sydney airport - they seem to have pared back the menu there but offerings were nice, bubbles were poured and it was not too crowded.
Transit in AUH was easy, no big queues at clearance and knew to look for the J line. Did get a fairly friendly pat down in the cubicle.
Parked myself in the First Lounge for the layover - had a massage, shower and something to eat and the 2 odd hours passed quickly.
Next flight was to Zurich and was on the EY Dreamliner - my first time on one. Had row 7 (bulkhead) and it was a pretty full flight. Seat is not quite as good as the A380 one, not having the under window storage and less private generally. As it was a night flight the cabin quickly settled down and I managed a few hours sleep.
Zurich airport is a bit different! Did the usual hike through the terminal and hit a big crowd for passport control. It's useful to note that the lines for EU passport holders tends to block the access to the Other lines. Once cleared, further hike and then had to train to another terminal for luggage collection.
It was around 7.30am and I had arranged a car from Blacklane (thanks to a referral from here) - was luxury car, immaculate, friendly driver. Would highly recommend them as a transfer service.
Quick transfer into the Zurich Old Town and to Hotel Altstadt where I'd be staying.
