Through baggage / transfer Malaysia and Emirates at KLIA

Hi all,

I have an AsiaMiles award booking J class on Malaysia SYD to KLIA then connecting 14 hours to a separate QFF award J Class flight on Emirates. As they are two separate tickets, does anyone know if i can ask either airline to connect them so i can get boarding passes and through baggage check from SYD? If not, whether i can collect baggage at KLIA and stay airside, with Emirates boarding passes then issued by a transfer desk? I’d really prefer to stay in the lounge or the airside transit hotel and avoid having to exit via departures and check back in through the landside desks, security, immigration etc if at all possible. Looks like they have an interlining agreement, but I am not sure how this works in practice.
