Anyone have any experience with this particular bit of luggage?

No experience but the weight is the first thing I noticed!

Assuming this is for international travel only? It's too big for domestic and on a bad day you'll get charged for oversized luggage. I have a non-wheeled North Face duffle and a Patagonia. I prefer the zippers and layout of the Patagonia, so you might want to check them out too.

Even for domestic check-in?

Will check out Patagonia. (I presume the black hole series?)

Domestic checked bag total dimensions on QF, JQ and VA is 140cm (width+height+depth of your bag). The North Face one you linked to is 158cm, so will be oversized. I've seen plenty of people checking in sports kit bags that looked above 140cm total (e.g. cricket kit bags), so perhaps it's not monitored closely? Maybe someone else here will know whether the airlines care?

Yes, the blackhole series of Patagonia.

Well that is annoying. Thanks for the heads up. (my fault though, I have travelled carry on only for past several years, hence out of touch etc)
