Why is this?

Why, this here is a OneWorld board, pardner. UA/CO is of nothing more than passing interest in Qantasland, aka Australia.

Well, if either of the two of them (now one of them) had

a) an alliance partner
b) more of a presence in Australia

then perhaps there'd be more discussion.

As it stands, the number of Australian residents who gain from this merger (as it currently stands) is very few.

I cant even think of the last time I saw United advertising anywhere in Australia.

Perhaps now they are combined, the new United will look at serving more secondary ports, and/or forming an alliance with one of the locals (guess which??).

How much Qantas discussion (pre-Oprah) was there in the LOTFAP?

I'm one of the (few?) *A types here... and I must admit I get my UA/CO info over on FT....;)

Not much effect anyway on those of us who fly/credit with those airliines.. but to another *A program (NZ in my case)....

I'm in the same boat - only thing I'm watching is that CO First Class instant upgrade fares only credit as Business travel for Airpoints.

Bet UA are kicking themselves now for breaking their alliance off with DJ. Is there an alternative for UA and *A FF to gain miles and status for destinations beyond SYD and MEL as it currently stands?

Listening to the UA CEO recently, he is suggesting that as a combined group, they are a stronger outfit and will look to refit their cabins and increase frequencies and destinations. Wonder if this will effect Australia?

Soon you'll be able to credit DJ flights to AirNZ, but as far as I know, that's it. I'm hopeful that *A will continue to seek to expand its reach in Australia, but I think we're still a way off seeing DJ join up (if ever).
