Somewhere there was discussion of how people left things - clothing etc - for the room attendants on cruises.

I couldn't find it, so I wonder if people could recount their experiences? Just leave stuff in room? Ask butler or the room attendant if they or anyone might like x or y or z? What type of stuff left/given?

I'm anticipating being over baggage allowance coming home, so would like to shed a few kilos (in more ways than one!) after the cruise.

On my Antarctic cruise I took my own rubber boots for landing and on the last day we were told to collect them and I asked the crew what happened if I didn't and they said they take them and sell them so I just gave the boots to them (after I'd cleaned them too)

On my med cruise I had bought some clothes pegs and asked the room steward if she wanted anything and she said I could leave anything I liked behind and she would sort it out

Several people who won the Seabourn bears gifted them to their room stewards because again they were able to edit - sell not regift.

I think it will be quite easy once you're on board and chatting to others

I meant to say on my Med cruise I think I left a jumper that I didn't want to lug home and some shoes and she was very happy with them as well

On the expedition cruises I believe plenty of boots, parkas, backpacks, water bottles etc are left for crew. Some have spoken to their butler about this, others have chosen to speak with the hotel manager about distributing them to staff ( I guess to ensure some of it reaches back of house crew ).

Not cruises but I have left stuff in hotel rooms, a cheap mobile phone that wont work here, excess caps, stubby coolers and other "give aways" I received at trade shows, and the odd older but useable clothing item. I just leave a note saying I dont want this you can keep or throw away so they dont think I forgot it accidentally.
