The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

I was also wondering will all the status points go back to Zero so I need 500 from 1st of June, or is it a rolling 12 months so it will include status credits from my recent trip?
The rolling 12 months count towards the next tier and not maintaining the current tier...

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The same applies to Qatar Airways
Virgin Australia and other airlines can only sell flights on which they have codeshare agreements, which are subject to regulatory approval.
I was looking at getting a redemption for Korea with inbound/outbound from ICN/PUS. I guess I'll have to go via ICN both directions..

Available award seats – fees can't be paid with cash?

I've found some business award seats from Europe to Aus with Qatar for 121k one way per seat.

However, when I try to book the seats, the system automatically chooses to use all my points for the taxes and surcharges (making it 244,200 per seat).

I can't find any way to pay the fees in cash. How can I choose the cash option?

Thanks

I think I'm pretty out of luck but I booked some BNE - PER flights yesterday during the sale (that was ending yesterday) as it seemed like the best I was going to get, only for them to go even lower in today's happy hour sale.

I'm a little annoyed if I'm honest, as the difference does add up for a couple of us. I only booked a standard choice fare though, no chance of getting a refund or credit for the difference is there? Unfortunately my CC price protection doesn't include internet purchases it seems

How far along did you get in the booking? You usually have a slider right at the end just before you pay where you can change it from all points to points + cash taxes. You'll have to go through a few steps before that though

If you purchase a one-way flight, and add the optional insurance how long is it valid for?

Presumably if you purchase a return flight it is valid for the time between the two flights

Hi everyone! First time poster.

If I earn 250 status credits to attain silver, would I just need to earn another 250 status credits in the same year to attain gold? Or would I need to earn an extra 500 status credits on top of the original 250?

thanks!

Hi, I have booked a business class flight with SQ on the Virgin website using Velocity points. How do I go about being able to choose a seat now, or do I need to wait to checking in.

Will my Virgin reference number work on SQ.

If I book an economy flight from Melbourne to Vancouver with Air Canada using Velocity points, am I then able to use velocity or Aeroplane points to upgrade.

From memory - change the booking on the VA website to your SQ Krisflyer number then sign onto SQ website with KF number and you should be able to choose seats.

I used points to go last November and i'm pretty sure i just used the Confirmation code on your e-ticket email, on the SQ website to mange your booking and choose a seat. It's just under where it says CONFIRMED in bold.

The SQ reference number should be on the email

Thank you. I found the number and it worked

This.

The booking confirmation is all you need. There might be some economy seats that need SQ membership to reserve? But business class is fine without.

No. Neither.

Hi all. I found an old thread relating to the awarding of Hilton Diamond for VA platinums. The thread was a bit old however (old VA pre covid).

What’s the current skinny on the Hilton status match? Does it expire at the end of the first year, or is it extended as it was pre covid.. so as long as you stay VA plat you keep diamond?

The old thread mentioned it was extended because if you dropped to gold and then re qualified you again could choose to status match again, Which was kind of a bit silly!

It should for the year you activate and then through to end of March 2 yrs later. At which point you drop if you didn’t requal in the preceding year. A caveat might be this is true activating after the end of March in a year. eg I fired off the Gold and have it this year and next year plus to Mar 2025.

No

I believe it’s still once only but you can get both Diamond and Gold.

Just arrived in to the OOL VA lounge as an WP arrival passenger and was told that I only had 1 hour. Is this a thing?

I get that it's packed as but I just wanted somewhere to work till a bit later. Not a major deal but the 1 hour rule isn't even listed on their website.
