The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Edited my original post… but issue is the same. Booked a return SYD-MEL, the SYD-MEL has credited as 1 eligible sector and given me my points. But no SCs! This is for a regular D class booking, albeit at the $299 one way cheapies at the time I booked.

Any reason why this would occur? The fare should be eligible for SCs. I’ll call velocity in the morning but just wanted to know if it was a glitch. The flight was a day ago.

Same here, but MEL-SYD. It's not just us that's been affected; a few people who also flew J recently got the points, but not the SC.

Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I'll fire away anyways, I'm looking at upgrading from Flex to Business using points but the VA website says to go on a wait list, even though I can see there are still 3 seats available. Fair enough. What concerns me though is I have selected seat 5A but to go on the wait list it says "The seats you currently have will be removed for any flights you choose to upgrade." Does this mean I will lose my current selected seat of 5A?

3 seats available with money, or 3 business rewards seats available? The upgrade with points seats come out of the pool of business rewards seats. The upgrade with $$$ bid comes out of the pool of unsold revenue seats (and presumably unsold rewards seats if there are no bids, but since you’re on a waitlist I suspect those are all sold).

edit: whoops forgot to answer your actual question! You’ll lose your selected seats when your upgrade is confirmed. Which is obvious but they make a point of it anyway? If your upgrade with points is unsuccessful you’ll stay in 5A.

I'm planning on making a reward booking using the Points + Pay option.
I will also be receiving the $129 Virgin Australia flight credit associated with the Virgin Flyer credit card (apparently the credit is provided in the form of a Virgin Australia Travel Bank Credit).
Am I right in thinking the Travel Bank Credit can't be used to pay the "+ Pay" component of a "Points + Pay" reward booking?

Is it good use of velocity points 112k for return economy sydney abu dhabi (or nearly 2800 AUD)? Seems like a lot of pts for a return economy?!

thanks!

My flight yesterday didn’t come through with SCs either!

This time the call to Velocity was really quick, agent said they were aware of the problem and it was supposed to have been fixed on 4 Jan… ‘but your flight was on the 5th!’

He immediately adjusted the SCs and has reported the issue as ‘still open’.

Thanks for the data points on missing SC's. Same issue for me. Flew MEL-HBA in J on 2 Jan and with pooling that 110 SC was to get me to WP! Sent an email on Thursday, no response as yet, but good to know that it's not just me and they are aware.

Hi all, is there a master thread or somewhere you can direct me to understand all the ins and outs of booking international flights using my Velocity points? I have not used Velocity points for international flights. I must be doing something wrong because i am only getting flights with a huge amount of points.

For example 295,000 points for 2 pax ICN to Melb Biz... does this sound right or am i stuffing up? I think I am because booking using SING airlines should only be these prices but i am not getting that when i search

Where is the screenshot from? I suspect it's showing (previous?) Economy and Premium Economy reward pricing...

I searched a random date and a "Business Reward" seat for ICN-SIN-MEL is 147,500 points per person (or 92,000 points + $331.68)

295k points would be if you chose to pay for it in points totally including the carrier charges.
As you will see below if you choose to pay the $662 in charges it would bring it back to 184k points for two people

As a newbie with these velocity points, i totally misunderstood this.... I have got it now... Thanks... It is only if i choose points and pay the taxes that i would get a reasonable rate.

Thank you all

Email reply received today and SCs manually added. Platinum here I come!

Is there any way of getting the VA website to restrict its searches to premium cabins only? I'm losing the will to live clicking on 20 flights a day only to find there is only economy available.

Sadly, no. A paid service such as Expert Flyer might help a bit.
