I was comparing Whitby to Scarborough with our driver. He said that over the last few years Whitby had received a lot of 'council money' and had been spruced up. Scarborough had meanwhile been pretty much neglected.

Today’s office was a long neglected historic property near Sorell. New owner has the determination and the money to restore it. Today was the second working bee just to get some of the yard in order. I was asked to be pyromaniac-in-charge.

Goathland Station - Hogsmead Station in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.



But more importantly I got to see the only operational LNER Class L4 (Mallard class) steam train - Sir Nigel Gresley - in action. This train holds the post WW2 speed record for steam trains in the UK of 112 MPH

Leeds seems to have done a pretty good job with its historic city centre. We also visited The Corn Exchange and the historic market building yesterday.
