My office view for about 4 hour comes courtesy of @SOPOOR who very kindly gave me three passes to the AC Maple Leaf lounge at YVR.

Richmond, Canada.

I recall when these passes were offered, @SOPOOR was keen to see them put too good use.

I had two serves of the souvlaki and Miss H went back for thirds of the pasta.

Well used indeed.

Pic of the souvlaki, but the rest of the buffet and salad bar was too busy to photograph discretely.

What is a QF plane doing in Richmond, Canada!?

On the left, Rhun island, part of the Maluku Islands. These islands were the sole source of nutmeg which was worth a fortune in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Dutch occupied all the islands except Rhun, which the English had a foot hold on and therefore could break the Dutch Monopoly on nutmeg.

Various comings and goings, but after the Anglo Dutch wars in the 17th century Rhun was ceded to the Dutch in effective exchange for a place called New Amsterdam over at the Atlantic Ocean to the west. 😊

Giles Morton wrote a fantastic book, Nathaniel's Nutmeg on what happened on Rhun Island. Such a small island, but had a massive impact, especially the exchange for Manhattan. It's good to see a photo of what it looks like.

The expedition guide who gave us a talk on the Spice Islands mentioned that book and I have it down to get when I get home.
