With my thanks to @VPS for the recommendation. I’ve already heard about the coughtails.
Ooh are you there already - very jealous

I'm doing some training at work and they all have their passwords written on a bit of paper in a book - one of the passwords was idiot123 and I concur

Planning a canal boat on the Canal du Midi next year for a week or so - any suggestions from people you meet are welcome
One thing I can offer is that people around the locks seemed to be very helpful to novice boat operators. Of course at some locks the only person around is the lock keeper.

There also seems to be a determined effort to get two boats in the lock if at all possible. Signs about avoiding thee waste of canal water were conspicuous at Carcassonne.

Another thing I learnt was about the lack of trees alongside the canal in places. There were plenty of large roots by the waters edge but no trees. According to the boat guide multiple thousands of Plain Trees have been felled due to disease. Her story was that when US troops were in southern France late in WW2 their artillery shells were in wooden crates made from US Plain Trees. But this wood was contaminated with a fungus that French trees were very susceptible to. New plantings of more diverse trees is happening but it will take time to restore the canal edges.

Just in case the photo doesn't show well enough how tight the seat is in general, here's one for getting in/out of the seat area. From the above photo, you can see the grey side that cuts into your shoulder. To avoid it you have to sit straight on, but then if you want to use the table or watch anything on the IFE, you need to twist yourself slightly to see it .....

Crossing into Cornwall from Devon

For those of you following along with my attempt to have a Pullman dining experience, I am still waiting for the response from GWR. I did get an OOO from the person I was told to email who was off sick with another email address if it was urgent. Zip from them too but anyway I will follow up later.

So because I had saved so much money by not having the Pullman lunch I thought I would upgrade to first class on the way back to Cornwall. I went into the GWR office in Paddington and they said they couldn't do it was just easier to
just sit in first class and when the conductor asks for your ticket just ask them to upgrade you and it will be about £30.

Sat in first class and the conductor checked every ticket in the cabin except mine so got the free water and snacks and no extra cost. Winner winner
