1 restaurant at the Marina and a couple of coffee shops in the main street. There are quite a few clothing shops open but a lot more are closed. A lot of restaurants are open along The Esplanade in Cairns. Only 3 open in Palm Cove.
We saw signs for a lot more opening in July

The last time we were in Cairns, they only turned the waterfall "on" when the train went past, when we drove up in the car - it was a trickle !!

The train is due to start operating again tomorrow. There might be more shops open and water running

Not my view, but anytime there is significant rain on Mt Wellington, behind Hobart, a depression in the ground up there fills with water. Called the 'Disappearing Tarn'. Well, Mt Wellington has had about 300mm in the past week and the tarn is back, and the word got around (its not easily accessible). Of course some twit has to go swim in it, but otherwise a beautiful, and transient thing.






Its somewhere in the middle of the skyline in this shot. brrrr!

I am not surprised by this.In northern Tassie most shops and restaurants have reopened as in winter it is mainly locals that frequent the these places.
On the Gold and Sunshine coasts and FNQ a large part of their business is interstate tourism in winter.
