re: The view from my "office"

This is the view from a café in Tokyo where I'm currently working.

(They also just brought around free cups of coffee to everyone!)

Don't stress it...have both

re: The view from my "office"

Today's office is the Lady Nelson replica, built in 1987-88 for the Bicentenary, replicating the vessel that sailed to Australia first in 1808 and made many journeys to Van Diemen's Land.

Here's the ride arriving:

The embarkation view. That's the new Federal Hotel, on the waterfront. Now maybe people will shut up saying "we can't find a good hotel in Hobart" (but in case that's not good enough yes, there is a cookie-cutter Hilton coming  ). Now, isn't this pub better than that glass tower monstrosity (with the Chinese junk across the front) that was proposed?

Our volunteer captain for the day (all the crew are volunteers). She first came aboard aged 15, then went off and now sails 100,000 t bulk ore carriers for a living. I was pretty relaxed having her at the wheel. I was even happier when she got 'the spanker' out  .

The Derwent, with the city of Hobart and Mt Wellington in the back ground. Can you see 'the spanker' ? :)

I loved the regattas on the Derwent as a kid back in the '50s. Getting out amongst the vessels old and new on the river was a highlight of my year, and this just reminds me how good it was.

A pair of Western Rosellas' came for a feed on my figs this morning. I didn't mind as they are lovely to look at and I am the only one (human) with a taste for figs anyway.

Lovely birds though they look more like Rainbow Lorikeets to me.

I think you are right. As they are not native to W.A. I didn't think of them - my ornithological skills are obviously minimal. Rainbow Lorikeets are actually a "declared pest" over here and only escaped into the wild in the 1960's.

re: The view from my "office"

I see on the web (Garden Birds) that there is a colony of them in Perth. We have them here as well - originally escapees though the ornithological group think that there is a small flock here now.

View from our balcony, Portobello by the Sea (looking towards Dicky Beach). Had two lovely swims there with my 9 yo daughter teaching her how to dive under waves, bodysurf, read the ocean. Loved watching the nippers out on Sunday AM plus the Clubbies on their rescue boards. More than once I wanted to knock one off and have another go (got my Bronze 26 years ago at Coolum so it's in the blood)

One of the art installations at Laneway Festival in Sydney on Saturday.

Been wondering what it's meant to say since then.

re: The view from my "office"

My office was upgraded from the basement to this for 17 hours. However, I slept up on the job for 11 of those hours.
