The Qantas Singapore Lounge

Sorry to say Qantas, but I hated the new lounge after a visit on Monday evening. It had the ambience of a food court.

After about 20 minutes sitting on the uncomfortable wooden seating (the only seats that were available) we decided to give the lounge a miss and went over to check out the Emirates lounge.

Now that's what I call a lounge. Comfortable seating, quiet and with a great view of the runway. They actually had champagne (and not Australian sparkling) and the staff made us feel so welcome and mixed up some great coughtails for us (while giving us some of their own creations to try). Food was self serve, but a chef hovered constantly replenishing anything that was taken. I enjoyed some of the beef and chicken satay skewers, along with a great seafood fried rice with scallops and prawns.

I left the Emirates lounge feeling so content that I skipped both meal services on the flight back to Sydney and slept like a baby.

So yes, I encourage everyone to continue using the Qantas lounge so that the Emirates lounge remains the sanctuary it was the next time I return :)

How can you access both at the same time ? I thought if flying QF then it would be the QF lounge ?

So 12 days later and guess what? I made a mistake with the braised chicken. It is stir fried chicken. Woop dee doo.

Against my better judgement went to Emirates lounge and was surprised as they had grilled beef with an endless variety of other options and only about 10 people in the lounge where as the Qantas lounge has limited choice and the lounge was almost full.

JohnK, thanks for the pro tip. Do the other option include vegetarian options at all. Its my partners first choice so I always try and scan ahead.

Plat and above have EK lounge access if EK or QF flight. I' m totally with Ewing. EK lounge in SIN a sanctuary against the QF zoo near flight time. And it's closer to the gate usually.

From memory there were vegetarian options. Spring rolls is one that comes to mind and there were various rice dices plus the usual salad items.

To be fair though the Qantas lounge does have an abundance of boiled/fresh vegetables.

Thanks JohnK, I appreciate the timely feedback. My shout at the next gathering. It's a shame we will miss you on the way back 1/11.

That should read "Gold and above..." ;)

No... don't let them know about that please... :)

Anyway, virtually all (if not all) QF flights leave from the C gates, and the EK lounge is just upstairs from the entry point to those gates. There aren't any other lounges closer to this set of gates. Basically, when you go through immigration, turn left, and walk all the way to the end before you have to turn. This is where the escalator is to go up. Once up the escalators, you'll see the Rainforest lounge straight ahead. Take a hard left, and the EK lounge is on the left. There are not many signs around that would point you to the EK lounge so it's not as easy to find as it should be, but you can also follow the signs to the Rainforest lounge, which I find to be a little bit more prominent. Also, once you're past the entrance of the lounge, that part looks quite boring. However, go through there and follow it around to the left, and you shall find views of the runway. The food is a little further along.

Overall, I think the QF lounge will appeal more to those who prefer something with a more modern style, while the EK lounge is more of a traditional seat back, relax, and be really comfortable type of place.

The EK lounge entitlements are spelled out in the QF/EK FAQ... in fact, it's the first point under 'Lounge Access', as detailed below.

Lounge Access

1. Will Qantas Frequent Flyer Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum or Gold Members have access to all Emirates lounges?

For travel on/after 31 March 2013 Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates lounges where available across Australia, Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In Dubai, Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One and Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to the Emirates First and Business Lounges and Gold Frequent Flyers will have access the Emirates Business Lounges.

Emirates lounge access is in addition to Qantas lounges, worldwide.

To access the relevant lounge, Chairmans Lounge, Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Members must be departing that day on a Qantas (QF) or Emirates (EK) operated flight.

When it comes to EK, SGs have exactly the same access entitlements as WPs (and above), with the exception of the F lounge in DXB. You may not like it, but those are the entitlements. :)

Note that LHR has particular restrictions and doesn't follow this pattern.

Note that the EK lounge doesn't open til 1830 though ... I tried to go in before QF52 the other day but ended up slumming it in the QP instead :)

Is it that late? I was in there before QF52 a few days ago.

EK432 is back to its normal time so the lounge should be open 1230 to 1530, other than that the times pictured should be current.

Yes, but the access with children is different: WP can bring two children and SG none when using EK Lounges.
Have to book a holiday in DXB with the kids as long as I am still WP....

This lounge gets better every time I use it. I have read about CL and P1 getting special attention but today is the first time in four visits that I've actually experienced it.

I got here just after 3 pm. I was escorted in and asked if I'd like a shower before it gets busy. I accepted and was taken to the shower area and the 'VIP' shower was opened for me. Not sure if it's any different, it had Payot toiletries, it was very close to the entrance, and it wasn't being used. So all good.

When i came out I was greeted by name and asked if I would like a meal. I said I would eat later. The lady nodded at a gentleman who came over and addressed me by name. He escorted me to the white chairs near the bar which now all have 'reserved' signs on the tables. He asked me what I'd like to drink and went to the bar to get it for me. And then a plate of cashews arrived. As soon as I finished my first drink I was asked if I'd like another. If they keep this up I'm going to start thinking I'm special.

IMHO this is the best lounge I've been in after SYD and MEL F Lounges. It is significantly better than the old QF F Lounge in SIN.

It's great ... until it fills up which is becoming more and more common. Then it's just a zoo.

A zoo with very nice Singapore Slings though!
