The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

I’m trying to book Per - Syd , Feb 29 - March 2nd.
Using Qantas business rewards
Keeps coming up with ‘no results available’.
Why is it doing that if there’s lots of availability on the normal Qantas website

I am about to book a premium economy seat LAX to SYD. I know the seat is the same but is there a preference between the 388 or the 789 aircraft experience?

My inkling is 789 given its a smaller aircraft

I prefer the 388 if you're after a window seat due to the bins. There's also just more space to walk around etc.

My flex Jetstar flight to Japan got cancelled today and they put me on a Qantas flight instead. Am I eligible to claim qantas points after the flight or is this not applicable because I originally booked flex?

Don't see why not. You are flying on a QF flight. supply your QFF# (if not already there from your JQ booking) and should earn.

If you put your QFF number on the Qantas flight too, there's a slight chance that you'll end up with a surprise :)

They can come back, with flex fares, int does not earn QFF points or QF SC."
Only the "max" bundles do/does.
That is the comeback they "might" use.
The originating fare, that you paid that is.

Seems all irrelevant if pax was put onto QF, almost certainly in a revenue fare class (eg: Y) - thus they should earn per whatever class they were put into. Doesn't matter about JQ bundles or whatever in this case imo as it is an involuntary change by JQ.

Hi all,

Qantas Newbie so looking for some advice / experiences to prepare myself for my trip tomorrow.

Flying MEL - CBR with a transit in SYD on a CR booking through Qantas.

First flight is MEL - SYD on QF466 arriving into Sydney at 5:55pm, and the second flight is SYD - CBR on QF1447 which departs Sydney at 6:35pm. Just a 40 minute connection. Most Mondays over the past few weeks, QF466 has been operated by an A330 and on almost all of these occasions the flight has arrived late.

So I guess I’m wondering, if QF466 is delayed slightly (reducing the connection from 40 minutes but not making it impossible), will it be my responsibility if I don’t make it to QF1447 before the gate closes?

If I miss QF1447 altogether due to delays, will Qantas accomodate me for the night in Sydney (assuming that they are unable to re-accomodate me onto the single remaining SYD - CBR flight late on Monday night)?

I’m probably overthinking but I just want to be prepared and also be aware of my rights. Spooked by all the delays and cancellation on all the airlines lately. Thanks in advance!

First flight is MEL - SYD on QF466 arriving into Sydney at 4:30pm, and the second flight is SYD - CBR on QF1447 which departs Sydney at 6:35pm. Just a 40 minute connection. The times in your post give a 2 hr connection. This should be heaps even with a delayed arrival.

QF will do everything it can to get you to CBR and it is unusual IME that the last flight is fully booked, so you should get here OK.

But if they cause you to miss your flight to CBR and can’t get you onto any other flight that day, as long as BOTH flights are on the same booking (PNR) they will have to accomodate you overnight.

Good luck.

Same PNR ie the 6 alpha numeric code?
If so, they will try, if not, its their responsibility to put you onto another later flight SYD - CBR, which is the last one, not ideal of course.

Oops. 4:30pm is the departure time of QF466, not the arrival time. It actually arrives into Sydney at 5:55pm

Ok no worries! That is a bit tighter but I still wouldn’t worry too much. They may hold the QF1447 or it may well be late itself (quite common in my experience). And as I said it’s pretty rare that the last flight is full unless there’s bad weather or other reasons they’ve cancelled a bunch of flights and moved everyone to last flight.

I live in CBR and fly to/from SYD regularly, so I wouldn’t worry too much. In the end, if they booked it as a single journey, it’s up to them to deliver.

Thanks for your reassurance! Last time I flew domestically both my outbound and inbound flights got cancelled so not very confident at the moment

They might do an equipment swap, so it will the be the 737, smaller plane, less # of pax, and you might be able to deplane faster.
If it keeps as the 330, they will use the circular gates, down the end near the Qantas museum, its not that far a walk from there to gate 16/17, where the dash8 go from.
If it turns out to the 737, then it could be at any gate that they flight will use.

If you can pick seats at OLCI, pick to sit near the front, and then be the first few off after J class.
As a QF WP, that is what we call those/them on here, you might be able to request an upgrade to J, if you have enough points, then you will be the first few off.
I do love the 330, but they seem to be less and less on dom flights these days.
