The Qantas "experience" in CGK

the lounge would not be used to seeing transit pax on Qantas services with other airlines boarding pass stock. I would assume that Qantas would issue a separate lounge pass at the check-in stage at CGK which is probably why there was some confusion with the lounge access.

Wasn't exactly trying to "pin" it on Qantas as such, just making a point that the concept of pushing everyone off onto partner airlines and expecting a seamless experience isn't always how it works! My parents chose to route that way as they have always been loyal QF customers. These days I think it's just easier to connect with a carrier that offers genuine seamless transfers. It is a big shame.
I can sympathise - it is hard to break old loyalties. I have been finding that myself recently. I have stuck with Qantas and done some inconvenient routings in order to fly on their metal. However I think we need to realise that Qantas is not Australia's carrier any more - it is a listed company and subject to business decisions and that means internationally you need to look at other options. Haven't quite done it myself yet, but have given myself a vigorous lecture on choosing carriers other than Qantas in the future! (Been flying Qantas/BA as much as possible for the last 40 years, so hard to break the habit).

Good points as always.

The routing was selected that way mainly on price but also as they had fairly significant amounts of baggage which was fine for a status pax in J, however would not have worked with the connection on Jetstar Asia. That, in many ways, is the basis of the problem. Every other carrier can offer J options the whole way to many SE Asian ports, however QF unceremoniously dumps it's pax onto 3K where it matters with little onwards support.
