A Tale of two terminals | The Australian

(Its an AP story).

Personally I'm happy enough with the SYD (or MEL) Flounge, and SmartGate coming back in - but the Fast Track cards for outbound security and immigration aren't worth much IME.

And of course we already get "Priority" baggage to speed us on our way . (HA ha ha :D )

Can't decide if the author is jealous or wants a freebie.

Typical no-news article regurgitating press releases and calling it real news.

Re: The Oz reporting on separation of F pax from the great unwashed (and other F perk

anything 'remotely' related to ' OZ aviation' at the moment is BIG NEWS to the media...whatever pops up on 'google search' is the topic of the day!!

Re: The Oz reporting on separation of F pax from the great unwashed (and other F perk

Not a bad filler story that appeals to the general public!

*yawn* Leave the rich be.... What does he want to do, have these privileges thrown out the window? The rich will just start flying their own private jets, and then all us no-body's will have nothing, all the airlines would have gone bust because of no real revenue....

Priority Check-in, Priority Boarding, Priority Baggage, Lounge Access, Extra Luggage, Seats near the front with extra leg space - For most of us here, myself included, it becomes a common thing as Frequent Flyers! For most of my peers though, I'm living the dream when I fly....
The benefits listed above make things great enough :)

"For instance, a roundtrip flight in July between New York and Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific costs $1,600 in coach, $7,600 in business class and $19,000 in first class."

AAnother well researched article  :D

BREAKING NEWS: PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY PAY FOR!

(A much more interesting story would be about those people like us who get a lot more than they pay for!)

I saw (USA)Qantas return flight Miami Melbourne just under 1700 USD quotes two days ago for flight in March.

'Airlines will even save room for your bags in the overhead bin'

That's not the F class I'd like to sample where you have to look for an overhead space.

More like AA domestic F to me !

Looks like the writer had never experienced (seen) F him/herself during research for the article.

And while all airlines are guilty, a check of randomly selected weekday travel QF MEL-MIA was just under AU$2200 (US$1960)

Home ground penalty??

Happy wandering

Better not tell them that the Eames chair is starting to make an appearance in the Admirals Clubs too - not just the Heathrow VIP suite! :)

There are so many fake Eameses about now though (I've seen a lot of them in open houses recently). Who's to say it's a real one?

I don't like the tone in which the article is written because the OP seems to take great delight in stirring the possum by deliberately trying to make out that anyone who flies economy as somehow a lesser being than someone who gets to fly First Class. The entire article reminds me of that scene in Titanic when passengers were being loaded into the lifeboats and Rose's mother said "I do hope they're loading people according to class".

Global airlines are increasingly rewarding wealthy flyers with something more intangible: physical distance between them and everyone else. The idea is to provide an exclusive experience — inaccessible, even invisible, to the masses in coach. It's one way that a gap between the world's wealthiest 1 per cent and everyone else has widened.

The OP loves to keep highlighting that at no time should an First Class passenger ever come into contact with someone in steerage. It wouild appear that being in separate cabins oboad the flight itself is not enough.

When Emirates Airline opened a new concourse at its home airport in Dubai last year, it made sure to keep coach passengers separate from those in business and first class. The top floor of the building is a lounge for premium passengers with direct boarding to the upstairs of Emirates' fleet of double-decker Airbus A380s. Those in coach wait one story below and board to the lower level of the plane.

Having a dedicated aerobridge from the lounge to the plane makes sense as pax don't get lost in the terminal or distracted by shops enroute to the plane plus making sense logistically to load pax on the upper deck through a separate aerobridge so as to avoid congestion on the main deck however the OP would rather make out that EK deliberately created the walkway so premium pax didn't have to eyeball economy pax.

London's Heathrow Airport took a private suite area designed for the royal family and heads of state and in July opened it to any passenger flying business or first class who's willing to pay an extra $2,500.

Anyone who pays that kind of money for some average looking lounge when they get free access to airline lounges such as BA Galleries free of charge is beyond me.

Once back on the ground, that luxury treatment continues. At airports in Paris, London, Istanbul, Bangkok, Sydney and elsewhere, airlines offer their top passengers fast-track cards allowing them to speed past immigration lines.
And then, while other passengers wait in lines for buses, taxis or shuttles, chauffeurs in suits meet these flyers ready to — once again — whisk them out of the chaos.

Is a fast-track immigration card really a luxurious item? Has the OP ever tried using one in MEL? Can't have F pax being subjected to chaos can we? I'm sure plenty of economy pax have successfully used Smart Gate & on occasion may even exit the customs hall before those horribly privileged few from the pointy end.

The section I bolded will ensure that we never see this option in Australia...

Happy wandering (as long as it includes the duty free shops)

Meh.. it was still comfortable enough for me to fall asleep on for an hour or so. Who cares if it's fake?
