The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

Nice thread.
I'm just researching my first kris f booking for two
Obviously book as further out and waiting list

Many have said it usually gets filled in a few days or not at all.

So does that mean that many people miss out completely on the flights if they wait until a week before and nothing comes up? Isn't that hugely risky

I have a friend who booked aus sing EU return business class They put them selves on wait ting list in first week of Feb. And got it 2nd week of Feb. For flights in aug

Is this common? To be honest being on a waiting list would be very nerve wracking

Over the last 18/12 I have booked F saver awards for 2 on 3 trips. All my points are from Amex and have no SQ status.I am looking for a couple of weeks before they become bookable. These awards are all SIN-LAX.Only once were 2 awards immediately available. On the other 2 occasions I booked J saver awards and waitlisted for F.On both occasions they cleared within a week.

so, how far ahead were these bookings , and I assume they werent peak periods?

whats the general consensus for plan B or C,?

personally I find it quite stresfful if you are planning your big trip and cantget confirmation until late, as you cant make any sort of hotel, frined or alternative plans

I was booking the first 2 days after the flights were released. We do plan a long way ahead.

I haven't tried for F awards at that time but haven't had any problems with J awards at that timing.Mainly BNE-SIN-BNE.

I booked Sydney to Frankfurt in J in Feb for a trip in June.

Got saver one way and standard on the return,

There was plenty of availability and June bring peak European summer

I don't understand the stress mentioned relating to waiting list. The waiting list is unpredictable and should only be used as a backup plan. You always need to have confirmed flights to be certain you are travelling, even if they are in a lower class. Then if the waiting list tickets clear - consider it a bonus.
I usually have no problems as I book 350+ days in advance. Usually book 2 savers to anywhere in Europe in F. Best to book one way only, then 2 weeks later to book the return leg. I book many flights in F yearly, even if I am uncertain if I am going to travel. It is easy to cancel these if they are unsuitable with minimal penalty.

Newbie KF award seeker here.... Do award bookings open at 0000h Singapore time (AuEST 0200h) on T-355? I'm currently looking at ZRH-AU at 355 days out (my wanted date is still over a week away) at 6-8am and all F is waitlisted; though plenty of J saver is available. I don't think I'll have enough points to book a J saver and then stump up for a released F saver if a waitlist becomes available (if they're two separate transactions as mentioned upthread).

I can answer my own question: it seems to be 10:00am AuEST. I waited up till 2:00am today and latest date available remained at 19/6. I tried again at 08:05 and 09:05.
At10:03 the 20/6 had opened up and all F saver ZRH-MEL was waitlisted.

Far out! That's bad Thansk got the update
So what's the moral. Of the story?
Expect to wait list everything f?

Maybe. I have no status with SQ so maybe their high tiers get first bite at the award cherry.

EDIT: after checking SQ I checked QF: only offer was LHR-MEL - CX in F on 773 LHR-HKG, then CX J to MEL on 773 ...... no QF2 availability, though I was late in checking - about 10:15am.

London to Singapore is available, maybe go with that?

On SQ? Thanks, I might have a look at that. I chose ZRH as it's easier to get there from DBV. OTOH, Mrs C said she saw availability ZRH-DOH-MEL in J on Qatar on AsiaMiles. Must check that on QF .
EDIT: didn't think to split journey into two sectors - will try that as well .

so im just looking at a random date, I did a 2 week return flight first class from Melb to CDG April 2019

first search came up with a quite a few options all waitlisted,\

chose another date in May 2019,
777 from melb to SIngapore, and a380 from Singapore to CDG

so what does this mean in realistic laymans terms?

if Ibooked it today, would I be likely to get it, and if so are we talking weeks or months or last minute?

thanks for your help everyone,! as you can see im completely newbie

No one knows which puts the 'wait" into waitlist.

How about putting in the waitlist and see what happens, you'll know in three days if you are successful. If not, the waitlist will cancel.

Depending upon your patience, you can keep refreshing for a new bookings every few days.

I do know that I took Mrs Albatross in Suites from Mel to Zrh to Mel 5 years ago. I am still getting the benefits.

I have a paid J class booking in November on SQ25 JFK-SIN via FRA. I'm using this flight for a number of reasons - I'm working on Long Island the day of the flight and the evening departure really suits, it's bringing me back to SIN to connect with my return to BNE the following day, it's on the A380 - and I'm keen to try it.
I have enough points to upgrade to F but right now the only availability is Advantage at 140K points. Expert flyer is showing the F cabin empty for this flight so my question is - will SQ release any Saver upgrades over the coming months? Obviously this will give me the suites benefit for a big saving of points but on the other hand if I wait too long is it possible I could miss out altogether?
I understand that the vagaries of the SQ system means there may not be a definitive answer but I'd appreciate any advice on this one.
