The making of an All black 777

Nice looking bird.

I have always been impressed by the skill of the people who paint aircraft (I would hate to see the bad job that I would do).

Q - Why do the Boeing people hose down the tarmac in front of the paint hanger just before pulling the aircraft out?

So they get a nice shiny effect from the lights reflecting off the water as the plane is pulled out. Nothing more than making it all look pretty ...

Looks great, but I wonder how the air conditioning will cope?

(For the non-scientific amongst you, black objects absorb heat whereas white/light colours reflect it. They should, however, pick up a weight gain, as black pigments are not as heavy as white)
It's pretty cold at altitude so that probably helps.

Surely as black sucks up more light it will get heavier?

A huge generalisation I know.. but I like this paint job not only because I think it looks good/striking... but because so many airlines have such dull paint schemes...

Nice to see something a bit "out there"!

I'd like a good quality photo of it parked next to the All-Black A320!

Have to wait until its delivered, and its No 6 in the fleet, they have 2 A320s and 3 BE1900s!

That would obviously put more strain on the engines, thus adding to pollution and reducing the amount of power available to run the air conditioners.

I suspect it's a plot by ANZ to get back at us for Ansett.

Black absorbs and emits heat equally well. So heat absorbed will be emitted just as easier. Also heat flows from hot to cold, i.e. From a hot aircraft to a cold atmosphere.

The other thing to consider is that while white reflects well it will still absorb heat and hold that heat for longer.

I also seem to recall that this black/white thing was called a myth on QI. But I can't back up that memory with any facts.
