The Lounge MKY - A review from a FNQ regular.

I wasn't commenting so much about the flouro reference, more the bit about beers disappearing like water, or whatever it was. I've witnessed suits throwing back the "free" grog as well as any flouro and if I don't have to drive home at the other end, I often have a few too.......maybe I should pack a flouro shirt for those occasions .

I dislike blatant generalisations. Like everyone who flys LCC is a bogan, every one who flys in/out of OOL is a tourist AND a bogan, every one in a flouro shirt is uncouth and a drunk, everyone in a suit is a pillar of society.........all generalised rubbish.

+1

I've seen suits act like total tools on a flight, the best ones are the ones who shove the wife and kids in economy and they fly business but then they demand the wife and kids come into business class when the plane is in the air because there are free seats in J because they are platinum. I just sit back and laugh silently....

I sadly watched the new lounge from that seat in the first pic outside on Monday when flying back supposedly on Qantaslink and if you were reading the magazine in a new Bombadier from their fleet, alas I was on a Fokker 100 by Alliance - first flight up from Brissy the plane was dirty, old and smelly, one back same again had vomit on the seat back, and the same Spirit mag telling me all about the new planes on the regional routes. Flight was booked long ago because I wanted Q points and Jetstar at the time was not offerring them. Next time I shall fly Virgin and wander in the lounge and smile at the suits and the fluros and hopefully the plane will at least be clean :)

And hopefully you wont get the same F100 now that is slated for the odd DJ MKY flight!

ya joking surely no one else is flying them, geesh please don't tell me Virgin have some up their sleeve just to make sure I get another pleasant "Qantaslink" flight. I checked before I flew up and told my travelling partners it was def a Bombadier, nothing about Qantaslink leasing out to Alliance certain routes, you would think MKY would be a growth market for them and they would want to impress! I was reading in the lovely Spirit magazine about the new 400 seats going into Emerald now now with extra flights per week and that Moranbah has a TVL flight as well! Geesh I can't have a lounge in Newcastle but I will make sure next time i'm in Mackay i'm on Virgin at least! And I told hubby at least he would get a beer on the flight - no such luck - he got zuccini slice and soft drink, gee even we get a beer or two on the Qantaslink from Newcastle to Brissy!

sob.... gulp. never get hubby on it again, vomit smell and zuccini slice were not a good combination, think i'm doing the annual trek to MKY on my own from now on.

You might be OK, it looks to be spending most of its time heading to ROK at this stage, which is also a ATR destination now as well.

My only critism of the lounge is no toilet inside the lounge apart from that the staff are very nice and Samantha is wonderful...

The QP has the same issue, at least both are airside of security.

The Old QP in Mky had a unisex toilet.

You have to wonder why they would do an upgrade and exclude it.

Only in the last couple of years of its life, I suspect there was too much work required to put in plumbing?

To get loos upstairs they'd surely have to coordinate with DJ downstairs, so I wonder if they're talking to each other or not :p

I wasn't too bothered about the lack of loos, it was the fact that I had difficulties accessing them when a flight was boarding as the line snaked past the door.
