The Law of Unintended Consequences - and the Roo

OK, so we're all agreed? All the time travellers and SABRE experts? The minimum - prior to the changes - of a MEL-SYD-MEL Q/V itinerary was $350 + $189 Inclusive of fees etc = $539. Any advances on $539 ... anyone?

Can someone please explain to me then, booked on 3 Feb, the following:

you seem like you are angry? Im only telling you what QF had for sale a week ago in the gds and what is available now. Theres no change increase in price for a flexi. The gds historical fare search doesn't lie.

Where did you buy this ticket?

I have to say I am a little bit lost here.

I'm truly sorry to hear that, let me try to help you .....

Class V is now Class M for the most part (pricing is the same or very close). No real change here. Just book in Class M.

I don't agree with this hypothesis for the reasons posted in post #19 above.

You could have a little rant if you booked Classes Y, B or H as these conditions have reduced.

I'm sorry if my OP effort came across as a rant. That honestly wasn't my intention. I'm really am just observing my own behaviour an trying to open a serious discussion - which has been side-tracked onto actual $$$$.

In the OP, you say you were easily going to make WP without any DSC promotions, so the reduction in this 'cancer' should actually be a positive to 'real' WP (like yourself) as it thins the ranks of the 'fake' WP' for award seats, upgrades etc.

So I cannot see why you would not want to move more of your business to QF as they are finally rewarding 'real' status rather than 'fake'.

The point I was trying to make was nothing as trivial as self-interest. My point was - with a coughmulation of "enhancements" QF has altered my behaviour such that I'm now likely to reduce my spend with QF, which I don't believe to be the intent of those changes.

I'm disappointed in myself if this was not clear in my original post.

BD

Angry? No.

Bemused that people are so convinced that I can't buy a ticket at the price I stated.

As per my OP, this was purchased via the Corporate TA. My method is quite simple: I go in to the QF website and pull-up the fares for the days I wish to travel. I hone in on the times I roughly wish to travel and choose the flights according to the prices. I then booked those flights via the Corporate TA site (I cannot view the prices on the CTA site until the while itinerary is selected). I then compare the fare that the Corporate TA offers against what I see on the QF website ... it usually either matches or is a few dollars more (so much for their claim that they're able to bulk-buy!!). This is why I'm convinced I saw the V fares at sub $300 on the QFF website.

Everything else is my poor attempt at humour!!

imagine how those are going to feel who don't pay attention to these things and then don't requal for WP next year

"sorry sir, Im afraid the J lounge is only for WPs and you are now a SG..."

I'm just waiting for the next announcement ... "In order to bring our Lounge offerings in line with OneWorld, our Sapphire members will now have access to our Business Lounges, consequently ..."

Hey there BD, I understand your thinking, and I know a QF ¨enhancement¨ is a dirty word to many in this fórum, but I see it a tad differently. Although individual customers may perceive, rightly or wrongly, that they have been penalised by a change, as far as the company goes, QF seems to be heading in the right direction. So maybe there are unintended side consequences, but the main consequences QF desired are also happening?

V used to be more then $350.
Q could be less then $189.
A total fare under $500 was very possible.

OK, OK. If I agree to accept that, will you agree that *my* perceptions of QF's changes makes me spend less (cause I ain't looking at flex fares no more!!) -ergo the Law of Unintended Consequences...?

I never argued that, even 'liked' you OP :)
All these changes are confusing and unnecessary. Why do we need to waste our time finding out if V is treated like flexi even after the 18th?!
There should be simple fare options: Sale, Discount, Semi-Flexi, Fully-Flexi (at least for Y Dom) with one fare bucket and clear rules for each.

But how would they do their discriminatory pricing and maximize revenue??

In the words of the old Toyota ad: bugger!! I can feel another behaviour change coming on ... time to consult my therapist!

If they're cheaper, why don't I see that reflected in the price being charged? I see SYD-MEL flex consistently pricing at $369 (assuming this is M) whereas V used to price around the $279 mark.

Found this slide on the QF Agent industry website. Does it help the discussion?

I hope so, too - would like to think that the mass retrenchments and squeezing of staff and customers is bearing some long-term benefit which is not just occurring because of a change to QF's accounting practices!

To maintain my own sanity, I've gone back and reviewed this membership year where I've earned a 20~ on a SYDMEL leg (there are lots of MELADL too, but let's keep this fair and simple ;) ).

I compared what I paid against the table kindly provided by kevrosmith and it seems that I've been rorting QF left, right and centre!! Please, please .... can we keep this just between ourselves because if Alan see's that I've not been paying what even fellow AFFs think I should be paying, he'll probably have a hissy-fit and ground me ....

It's very common for companies to have corporate rates with QF. EY is one company for example. They log onto their own portal and see their own prices. Perhaps your Corporate TA has been providing you a discount after all.
