A friend of my son, a 20-something, was travelling Brisbane to Rockhampton return on Tiger. He forgot to check-in online and print his boarding passes before starting the trip, so he knew he would be up for an extra $15 each way.
Anyway, checking in at the airport in Rockie for his return flight, he was pleasantly surprised when they didn't charge him $15 for the boarding pass. In fact he was so surprised he asked the assistant, "How come I was charged $15 for a boarding pass in Brsibane but not here in Rockie?". The assistant then swore and asked for the boarding pass back. He dutifully handed it back and then she explained she had made a mistake and the boarding pass would now cost him $15.
Lesson: Never ask a question of an airline assistant about the price you just paid or didn't pay - at least until you have the boarding pass safely in your possession.
