The high life of the air hostess? Hardly

Well that article should surprise no-one. The general level of civility in the world has disappeared altogether. It's pretty much acceptable now for a grown adult to have a tantrum in public as a means to get their way.

Certainly gave me another reason for flying F over Y.:lol::oops:

I'm grateful for the existence of affordable economy flying, it serves it's purpose well. But if you decide to travel that way you really have to be prepared to cater for your own needs. Don't expect the airline to provide everything for your comfort and convenience, they won't. Nor do the flight attendants have the time to do the same. You are just one of hundreds they need to look after that day. If you want after dinner chocolates, a cheese platter and an extra blanket bring it yourself. Economy service is built down to a price, business and first up to a standard. We all have and make the choice about which class to fly. Most people opt for economy because they'd rather take a holiday every year than once every 5. But then they forget they made that choice. Business now is really only a bit more expensive than economy used to be. Anyone still remember the $4,000 economy returns to the US? It's only a few years since they disappeared.

Yes, I completely agree. Its like a whole shift/reclassification has happened. F is now completely opulent on many flights, J is what F used to be, Y is J and a new Y- has appeared in the slot that used to be Y at price which is absolute dollars and certainly relative dollars, extremely cheap compared to 10 years ago or so.

When you think of the rise of costs and wages across the board in the last 10 years I'm constantly amazed at how cheap flight is today.

Not quite. Y is pretty much the same in the big features - seating and particularly space. It's had a minor upgrade or two e.g. head wings, inflight vision, but also downgrades, e.g. inflight catering, menus, amenity packs, so is pretty much static. The closest thing to the old J is premium economy, though the old J was still generally better than premium now. It's more that F and J have been upgraded to make it more appealing to those with the dollars, Premium economy is the upsell and economy remains the mass market.
