The great hand luggage only challenge!!!

I was into biathlons for a while when I was at uni and would often run down to Coogee beach in my speedos (and a singlet) go for a swim and then run home. Needless to say there were often a few smart cough remarks from people that I would pass. Gravity, humility and lack of fitness means that I wouln't dare do this now.

My worst experince was one morning running down Arden Street when I tripped on a tree root that had broken through the footpath. With nothing but a flimsy piece of lycra for protection I lost quite a bit of skin (thankfully not from anywhere too sensitive) :oops:
 
Slight wrinkle in the hand luggage ointment - Wanchai Computer Centre...

Now it's a toss up between a gift for my parents (a digital photo frame) and staying on the hand luggage course... decisions decisions (also need to fit in two XBox360 wireless network adapters...)

Buy the photo frame and post it to them. Postage from most places in Asia is cheap. Why else do you think many E-Bay sellers are based there - the combination of cheap good and cheap postage.
 
Ok slight update. I like the plan of posting the frame - I will do that when I am back here in November. I didnt have enough time to choose a good frame at the right price on this trip.

I have rejigged my packing an dthe shoes are now in the garment bag - I plan to buy the Tumi trifold in NY so this will be a good test to see how this works. Effectively the garment bag has become "loseable" if forced to check in LHR. The Tumi bag is more compact so might not attract as much attention in LHR hopefully ;)

Even with a couple of acquisitions (sunglasses and book) the rollaboard is still not bulging now and will actually fit the laptop and note book more effectively for this trip (HKG-NRT) and the garment bag wont even need to be opened in NRT.

Hard to believe I am only half way through this trip though - the notes for the TR are already up to about 20 pages...

I always knew that physical exercise would lead to trouble. Justifies my way of life :cool:

Oh dear - I hope they've some form of 'lost and found' system at LHR? Here's hoping that you'd be reunited with your laptop soon, and that one day we'd get to read about SOB. :)

:DI was interested in the debacle we encountered recently at Heathrow Airport. We had to change planes and when we went through to customs, we, that is everyone on any flight, had to stow ALL out hand luggage, including handbags, briefcases, etc. in ONE bag. This was an absolute nightware for most people. As there were four of us travelling together, we managed to stuff our things amongst us. Thank heavens my carryon bag had extra pockets, and expanded brilliantly. This is one of the silliest ideas Heathrow personnel could conceive. I couldn't understand the reason behind it, nor could anyone else. So be warned!!!

Welcome to AFF.

This silly situation has been discussed many times here and on FT. It is well known and published as one of their (in my opinion) rather stupid rules. I've been through the system and it works but not sure what it achieves as people just repack bags then re repack bags after security. :rolleyes:
 
As the saga continues - I got to LHR this evening and asked for the airside lost property office only to be told it was only land side - so now I need to re checkin meaning I am down to one bag Then going to lost property I am told that in fact lost property closes at 7PM so I need to call tomorrow!!!!!

Basically - I am screwed - what a disasterous end to SOB :(
 
Well all is sort of good - a courier is picking up my laptop today and shipping it to me in Oz - hoping it will get here before friday!
