The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Card!)

Sounds like they might be starting to looking at the linking of accounts, people should probably be quick and get them done before they close the gates.

It's amusing to me that after all these years they still don't seem to have an IT solution in place to manage people with multiple types of MR accounts - in the past you used to have to pay a fee per 1,000 points to combine MR accounts of different types to stop people from accruing points in the lower/cheaper MR program then just opening a new account and redeeming them in Ascent...

Do you mean if i have a Platinum Card under Ascent and then get this card under gateway points when I receive the 100k it will go under my ascent program as long as i apply under the same user name and account as the platinum?

To get the Gateway points pooled into your Ascent MR, you'll have to call AMEX and have the MR account link. Otherwise, you'll earn the points into the respective MR account. Same or different username will not have any effect on this.

Can anyone here confirm the hard limit for AMEX issued cards being 3 cards in total regardless of type (ie, 3 credit) or a combination of credit and charge (ie, 2 x credit and 1 x charge - no more than 2 x credit). I've always thought this figure to be 2 x credit and 1 x charge but after searching on here ive found conflicting posts (3 x credit being OK?).

I'm currently at 2 x AMEX issued credit cards (edge and velocity) with 15,000 points yet to post from the velocity card i wish to cancel - which may not post until after 31-Jan.

I'd like to apply for the Explorer but not keen to walk away from 15k VFF.

I've got 2 charge cards and 2 credit cards. Have had 2 credit cards for years and have had to shut one down when applying for a new credit product.

Thanks. I thought this was most probably the case (2x credit). I'll have to watch the auto transfer like a hawk in the hope they transfer off prior to 31st.

Any idea if an account closure is 'instant' ie, if i was to cancel over the the phone and then minutes later apply for the Explorer - would the system have already knocked the card on the head and smooth sailing into Explorer?.

My wife has already applied and received 110k points with the explorer - wasn't going to bother but 55,000 SPG points are pretty hard to say no to (or in our case, 110k if i can get my application over the line :D)

I believe this is correct:

'or a combination of credit and charge (ie, 2 x credit and 1 x charge - no more than 2 x credit).'

But like most things with AMEX YMMV.

It took until the end of the day to show up as cancelled for me.

So three credit cards. Are you able to get three sign on bonus?

Quick question, all - can ONLY an existing Amex Explorer cardholder generate a referral for a new Amex Explorer cardholder? I suspect the answer is a 'yes' but am interested if there's any variations on this...

I can only generate links for the cards I hold - I have an Explorer so while I believe yes is the answer I cannot say for sure.

Referral links can be generated by existing card owners for the same suite of cards.

So for example the owner of an Amex explorer card could also generate a referral link for an Amex express essential card. And the holder of a Qantas American Express Premium Card could generate a link for a Qantas American Express Discovery Card
