Ebola has raging across a few African countries with fears it might make it to Europe. Quite scary as it has a mortality rate of about 90%.

Because Ebola is a disease that has an incubation period of between two and 21 days, it’s more than likely that the final line of defence — immigration staff at Heathrow — failed to notice anything untoward about him either. It wasn’t as if he was so unsteady or unwell that he couldn’t answer basic questions.

One of my biggest fears.

Made even worse after I saw Outbreak ~20 years ago.

Unfortunately it may only be a matter of time if the virus has spread to Lagos.

After reading the article I realised it was ¨scenario¨ - that noone actually made it into Britain with Ebola.

In any case, it is a nasty disease, but compared to most other diseases is much harder to contract, and much easier to fight. That even in Africa they have managed to control it so far shows this.

Ebola has an Incubation period of between two and 21 days, so a person in theory could get infected and travel anywhere in the world and once they get sick they become infectious it might get misdiagnosed... So any bodily fluid like sweat or a sneeze could infect another person.

It amazes me that the specialists that go into these areas don't get sick and die and that the media has not reported that we only have xyz people that can treat/cure/stop it.
Has it never travelled this far before?

Ebola is too efficient a killer and hard to contract for effective transmission. It gets around Africa because of poor health care, poor hygiene and fear of western medicine and interference.
If it spread to the developed world it would probably be contained relatively rapidly

Saw the above in MX.....so....laptop battery, phone battery, shoes off, belt off, tongue out for ebola swab.....
Time to buy Johnson and Johnson shares I think!

Yeah probably best we nuke the town/country and move on!
Anyone got any better ideas to stop the continued infection and death of eventually....well us?

Travellers risk of contracting Ebola is low because it requires direct contact with bodily fluids or secretions such as blood, sweat, urine or saliva. Ebola can't be spread like flu through casual contact or breathing the same air.

Patients are contagious once the disease has progressed to the point they are symptomatic or show signs of the disease.

Nope, pretty certain the death rate will maintain the steady 1 per person.

The plane trips I have flown(multiple airlines) on recently have all contained Salvia, body fluids and secretions.....so I'd put this at HIGH risk on a confined space of being transferred....then when you think you\they are say 21 days later whamo!
The hygiene habits of some and the stupidity of others is the flaw....HIGH risk here!

In the media 1 person but in reality this is wild file...aint any you guys watched "Contagion" ?

You can see body fluids not only on flights but in everyday life. Many people confuse infectivity and fatality of a disease.

It's way more likely "probability wise" one will die from influenza infection. The Ebola virus however - granted once you have it - it's about 80-90% fatal.

Ebola can't be spread through casual contact or breathing in the same air.

Most vulnerable people are health care workers and relatives who come in much closer contact with the sick.
An epidemiological study found that family members were at risk of infection if they had physical contact with sick individuals or their body fluids, or helped to prepare a corpse for burial. You aren't going to do that on an aeroplane are you?

Epidemiological studies also show aerosolised filoviruses rarely, if ever spread from human to human.

Unless you are in West Africa in a affected community having a panic attack => and therefore attacking the international health workers trying to help you.... your generally going to be safe.

Ebola is classed as a hemorrhagic fever virus(HF). Based on their clinical manifestations coagulation defects, capillary leak syndrome and shock. Other types of viruses in this group are Rift Valley fever, Crimean-Congo HF, Lassa fever, yellow fever, dengue Fever.

Chance is low, consequence is high.

What if a terrorist flew to Africa to get infected and flew back to LHR/FRA/CDG?
