Maybe there was demand for FIFO workers all the way from NZ?
FIFO workers is what keeps the that Air NZ flight at high yeild. There are many Kiwi FIFO's. Not much more time compared to say Perth - Queensland, especically if its non stop flight.

You win - QF announce today 2x/week Dec-Feb ("seasonal") PER-AKL-PER.

I guess if it's well patronised, it'll continue / extend beyond Xmas period.

So it's put up / shut up time for the PER customers [/QUOTE]

Thanks docjames, Yes and No! Great to see that they have done it and are at least trying something new. But the CHC retimings has just made my two hour layover in SYD (PER-SYD-CHC on Christmas eve) into a 12.5 hour layover!!! About to get on the phone and see what can be changed!! Wish me luck?

I liked the QF46,45 timings for CHC with PER flights and dont really want to go on EK

Does anyone know if this new route (PER > AKL) will be serviced by Jet Connect Personnel or QF Personnel...... both provided very good service IMHO.

Hopefully, this new route may lead to better things to come in the future... ie More QF flights to Queenstown, & Hopefully one day a QF Route to Rotorua.... This would be awesome!

This will be operated by QF mainline using A330 aircraft (Jetconnect only operate 737s)

I've had a look at Qantas' (Jetconnect's) new TT flights and interestingly, it seems that they've shortened the turnaround time to just 50 minutes. I'm not sure how this would impact on on time performance but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that current turnaround times (on average around 1hr 10mins) are unnecessarily long.

If you have a closer look at the new flight times, you will see that most flight numbers have changed and while some timings have only changed a little, there are some "new" flights, e.g. QF156 (AKL - MEL) which departs AKL at 21:35 and arrives just before midnight. (Previously the last flight left AKL at 18:45). And of course the SYD-CHC flight is now an evening departure, with the return departing early morning.

At the end of the day what makes a 737 run across the ditch any different to a 737 operating domesticity within Australia in relation to turn around times? Here they give 30-40 minute turn around times, so really 50 to NZ should be more than ample.

Overnight received a Flight Change Notification email, logged in to MMB to see the dreaded box: The Airline has cancelled your flight, please contact the airline etc etc. This is a JASA: MEL-SYD-WLG-SYD-MEL ... I had thoughts of endless fun on the phone.

As it turns out, QF have just renumbered the SYD-WLG and WLG-SYD flights. Timings are exactly the same, seat allocations same. Press Confirm and away we go ....

Regards,

BD

I got the email too for a BNE-AKL-SYD booking. I thought I might have been able to get away with changing to an EK A380 flight if they completely changed the flight times... No, one of the flights just leaves 25 minutes later and like you, it was simply a matter of clicking confirm :p

My change to a JASA next June is the cancellation of a mid day MEL-AKL and being put on the approx 4.30pm flight. Actually works well for me considering I am arriving from LAX and can go home for a few hours to change clothes etc.

I think that the next foreseeable route that Qantas will be offering will probably be PER-DXB with the A330 once they get their new product. Perhaps, if LH and EK perform their discussed tie up we may see QF restart the service into FRA to feed into LH's European network for destinations that EK lack. I have spoken to many people familiar with the QF situation and QF was reluctant to cease FRA service but they had to due to the 747 that was operating it. Now that they have a hub closer to Europe they can operate an A330 and reenter the market.

My dream remains for a Perth to London direct 787 on Qantas.
It is time for us to go to a Qantas AGM. We need to make some changes.

Maybe you could suggest it as an alternative when DXB gets reduced by 50% next year. ;)

Oh, Yes....and to make room for the fuel load, make economy seats with at least 40in pitch in a 2 3 2 config, with dining inspired by the two fat ladies or the Hairy Bikers, and I would be willing to pay a small premium. :)

Dining inspired by the Two Fat Ladies? Yes! I'd pay a premium for that too!

We can only dream once the new terminal is finally finished and Perth can take the 787..it will be nice to have F available out of Perth:)

Qantas missed the Perth opportunity that's for sure. We don't fly to Sydney to go the long way to London.
And then there is Mrscove not wanting to go thru Dubai ever.
