It seems at least QF / VA / SQ have devalued FF points so much that it's practically pointless to redeem them for Y flights these days.

It's quite ridiculous that VA will charge 94400 points + $846 for SYD LAX return in May when you can just buy the fare for just $1094. So 94400 points is just worth $248

Seems US Airways and Lifemiles bonus purchases offer a much better return for my loyalty

I'm expecting the next QF esq enhancement to make it more expensive to use points for the flight

With a QF classic J seat being only twice the number of points of a QF classic Y seat, QF classic Y rewards have never been good value for your points (a one way Y international reward could be a possible exception as one way int fares are normally quite expensive (excluding travel to/from NZ)). The introduction of 'fuel surcharges' has only made this equation worse. I have not considered reward Y travel in years.

Yes, 1 way international travel is the only benefit for me, as generally I like to hope around a few places when on holidays.

Would love to hear the doublethink response from QF or VA senior management on this.

This has been discussed previously on here. Recently a member highlighted the example where it is cheaper to buy a DRW-SIN flight on JQ compared to using QF points for the exact same flight.
