When will this extend to the airlines :?:

Royal Caribbean reverses fuel surcharges.
I am not aware of any airlines that have applied a fuel surcharge retrospectively to passengers to had booked their trips before the fuel surcharges were announced. So its not going to help any airline passengers. In this case the cruise company is refunding the surcharge it collected from passengers who had already booked before the surcharge was announced. They will not be refunding to passengers who booked after the surcharge was announced, and will continue to collect for future bookings.

Yes can just imagine the chaos at the check-in gate ... "sorry sir/madam,we can't issue you a boarding pass unless you pay an extra $15 as the fuel surcharge has increased since you booked your flight, oh make that $25 as we have to process manually and there's a $10 handling fee, if you'd done online checkin it would be only $15 ...... oh wait sorry sir, you want to pay by credit card that will be another $5...."

Oh no, don't give them any ideas!

I guess it is probably different with a cruise as it may be more common to book now and pay later. It seems those who has paid before the introduction of the surcharge were not subsequently charged, but those that had booked and not paid found the operator passing the hat around for donations to the fuel fund.
