The Mission get from PER-LAX (and return) in J or better for under AU$5k. (ish)

I've looked at different nesting various J fares from CX and or JL from different cities. (DPS, TPE, MNL) Ie a Return fare xx_-LAX and a xx_-PER. I'll then Point award it to xx_ and have a return fare to xx_ for use at a later date.

So far I've not found anything that gets it around 5k.

Is it possible? Any ideas

Air Pacific is about A$3.2k for J Syd/Lax/Syd. Hope that helps. :)

China Southern at 6300 in Feb.

What dates do you want?

Per-cgk on Garuda $2200
cgk-kul-tpe-lax on mh $3400

Getting closer.

Cgk-icn-lax also 3400 on KOrean Air

Also dps-icn-lax for that price may be good as quite a few options to dps (mostly LCC though).

What about Nov11 - Hawaiian airways Perth to Sydney in Y and SYD LAX in J $4929

Found it on bestflights

Really? I just did a quick price up on FJ SYD-LAX-SYD and it was a bit over $8k

I agree with the post from gowatson, regarding the Air Pacific fares.

The NAN run in J (ex BNE/MEL/SYD) was about $AU1350, return, in May, booked as 2 one-way trips (with the flights ex NAN, booked via the QF Fiji web-site). Not sure if the fare has changed by much.

plus:

NAN-LAX-NAN in Business Saver, booked via the same web-site, shows NAN-LAX on 29th Sep (as an example) as $FJ1840. LAX-NAN segment on 9th Oct is $FJ1710. Total NAN-LAX-NAN is $FJ3550 (about $AU1910).

Therefore, BNE/MEL/SYD to LAX and return, as above, comes to about $AU3260 ($1350 + $1910).

plus:

PER-SYD-PER fares of course.

Not the $5,000 challenge that you are looking for, but not as high as $8,000.

You buy Syd/Nan one way. Then buy Nan/Lax return in Fiji dollars and buy Nan/Syd one way in Fiji dollars. Prices are VERY different doing it that way.

You'd still have to get a LCC to DPS, but I like this option with CX. Gets you on a decent long haul J product for the parts that matter, with the all important fully flat bed. This is the only issue with FJ, on the NAN routing.
